    Looks like the die had the ST filled in durring the strike...

    Can you scan the area of the missing letters close up?

    is there any evidense of removing them ie. grinding scratching (why the heck would anyone do that?)

    Usually these are the result of a struck thru grease error- no real premium over the cool factor
