How about publishing the Body Bag counts in the population reports

claychaserclaychaser Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭✭
The PCGS population report says it certified about 8000 1909-S VDB cents. My question is how many more genuine coins are out there, but not certifiable due to problems such as cleaning, rim damage, corrosion, etc. Has anyone heard PCGS ever discussing how many genuine coins have been bodybagged for these problems (and not fakes)? I used this coin as an example, since it any nice examples would likley be certified to improve saleability due to the large number of fake coins out there. I also wonder about rarer coins, such as the 01-S and 13-S quarters.

I have suggested this before, with no response.

I do not see why that would be useful, I mean a coin could get bagged the first time it was sent in but slabbed the next. It's possible.

EDITED TO ADD- If the BBs were described as to specifically why they were body-bagged in the report, that would be more interesting, but it would be a lot of work.

A bodybag doesn't necessarily mean a coin is genuine if it's not specifically identified as a fake. If they see it's cleaned, for example, it can be bagged as cleaned and not evaluated any further. This has come up a couple of times in the Q & A sessions with David Hall.

My inquiry is to try to guess the number of surviving examples.image

Even an overall bodybag count for whatever reason for each specific coin would be useful in determining which specimens warrant extra attention prior to submission.

In my humble opinion, this would be a waste of time.image
