Newbie Question about coin albums

What are the best albums for coins? I remember the Whitman coin folders from my youth and they really don't seem to give a lot of protection to coins that are better quality and condition. Any suggestions? What about other alternatives to albums? Thanks!

John

Dansco albums are great. Archival quality.

I don't know that I'd go so far as to call Dansco albums "archival quality," but they do offer a reasonable degree of protection and they make a very handsome display. They are pretty much my favorite format for storing and viewing a set. Just be careful you don't damage mint state coins with the slides.

I'm a newbie, too. I also just got several Dansco albums to put some raw sets together. I think they beat the old Whitman type albums, hands-down, because the coins are "covered" by the plastic slides. I use cotton gloves when I insert coins, and ensure that I've inserted them deeply enough into the holes so the slides don't make contact when replaced over the coins. I would also recommend getting the slipcases for the binders, should you decide to go with Danscos.

If you're doing a classic set the old Wyatt Raymond Nationals, Harco, & Whitman albums (not folders) look cool as hell. Otherwise, DANSCO!!

I recommend at least ANACS, preferably PCGS/NGC.image
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Carefull of these when handling your coins going into any album/slot/holder. Wear cotton handling gloves...hold coin only by the rims. Lots of this is common sense but you need to heed these basics to keep those coins from getting ugly.
