Ivan Rodriguez--what would you consider his key rookie card?

So IRod is catching for another young team going headstrong in the playoffs. The guy has incredible numbers for his career and a MVP and WS under his belt. Lock for the HOF. What would you consider to be his best rookie card?
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)

  • While it's not his true rookie, the 1992 Bowman I believe takes the cake. I personally would pick up every 1989-1990 minor league card of his putout, as well as a good amount of every 1991 card. Def the 92 Bowman as well if your looking to have a complete IRod rookie set.
    Collecting;
    Mark Mulder rookies
    Chipper Jones rookies
    Orlando Cabrera rookies
    Lawrence Taylor
    Sam Huff
    Lavar Arrington
    NY Giants
    NY Yankees
    NJ Nets
    NJ Devils
1950s-1960s Topps NY Giants Team cards

Looking for Topps rookies as well.

I like his 91UD final edition card but IMO, if it comes out of a boxed set, it's not a true RC.

    Still, a cool card.

  • Stone-I think that's one of the most overlooked sets, a lot of great rookies and I love the clean design.

I respectfully disagree with the '92 Bowman nod since he has a very nice 1991 Bowman card out there.

  • Actually, I think his most popular rookie is 1991 Ultra Update.

Since we are on the subjet of Pudge. Check out the auto that I pulled from 2 boxes I bought last summer. Any idea of value for the Pudge collectors. It's a 2004 UD rookies and Prospects #ed to 50.

The UD final and Ultra update are probably the way to go.

Just for sheer coolness, I like the Line Drive Tulsa Drillers card, myself.

I am partial to the ultra update.
  • The tiffany is the only one that is even remotely limited the rest are easy to locate.

The key Pudge rookie is his 1991 Ultra Update card. Tiffany cards, while more expensive, are not considered mainstream enough. So go get yourself a PSA 10 Pudge Ultra for $30. It used to sell for over $100!!!
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
  • i read key as most valuable, not most often sold. therefore the tiffany cards, which have higher production numbers then many modern key rookies, is in fact pudges KEY rookie card.

I remember seeing highlights of his first game when he was called up. He threw out 2 basestealers at second by at least 10 feet. Cannon. And I think he had gotten married at his minor league park that morning, but maybe I'm confused. I do remember when his 1992 Fleer Rookie Sensations was a $30 card. Shoulda sold it when it was hot and bought it again for $1.
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

Stone always manages to have all these nice cards of the players we discuss. I bet he even has all the Mattingly rookies in exceptional condition!!

Anyway, let us sum it up:

    1991 Topps Traded Tiffany
1991 Fleer Ultra Update (the best one)
    1991 Upper Deck Final Edition

    1991 Bowman?????

I wonder how much each is worth??????
