I hope that isnt true because it would be a HORRIBLE decision. As much as I like Piniella, he's too much of a hot head. Yeah, Billy Martin was too but Piniella isnt Billy Martin by a long shot.

Torre has the right demeanor for that mix of players. He knows how to handle them. I fear that there will be too many antics and bickering in the Yankees clubhouse with Piniella.

ARod should go long before Torre. Plus, how about some PITCHING!?

The only thing I don't like about Torre is his tendancy to overuse certain middle relievers. He did it with Tom Gordon, Tanyon Sturtze, and this year with Scott Proctor.

Overall, Torre is an A+ skipper IMO. Guess we'll see what tomorrow brings!

And the mediocre man is gone....replaced by the most underrated manager of our time, sweet lou pinella.

good move...now, how about revamping that rotation with guys who can actually PITCH?

What a silly move. Just what could Joe Torre have done differently that would have kept the Yankees from being outscored 14-3 in the past 48 hrs?
  • IF it happens I'm sure Joe will retire. Lou ain't the right guy for the job. I'm a fan of his, BUT, he's not the right type of manager for the job. If anyone, I'd rather see Joe Girardi. But I don't see that happening(the old guard of Jeter, Rivera, Posada would love it though).

From the looks of it, the pitching rotation will be crazily different next season. Most likely Moose and RJ are gone. Rasner, Clippard, and Hughes are all solid prospects that'll eventually be brought into the fold. Hughes of course, most likely the last to make the call-up, but I can see him coming up if necessary before the playoff rosters come out next season. I hope they trade off a hitter for a solid starter; and give a solid run at Barry Zito(not sure if he has resigned with the A's yet, anyone know different?)

Ax, what do you know about good moves? Torre was the man for the job, still is in my book. Had he been allowed to bring in guys he wanted to, like he did during the 90's Yankee Dynasty, then not only would the payroll be a helluvalot lower; but they'd have more rings as well.

No, the 'old guard' would hate a guy coming in with rules and regulations that vets would HATE and never respond to. That's why girardi wasn't even tapped.

hahaha more dreaming, thinking that Zito is coming to the yankees. more daydreaming that the way to solve problems in ny is to solve tomorrows high priced free agent...wake up, clown!

haha so you're saying he should have been GM as well as manager? bwahahahahahaha
  • Big mistake to fire joe...
  • An even bigger mistake to let Kenny Rogers start in the post season, eh!!!!

It was NOT Torre's fault, the Wankees just ran into two pitchers who would NOT lose. But the blame is to go to Torre and A-Rod, or should I stand corrected!!!

Take away Pinella's managerial record in Seattle and he's a sub .500 manager. Don't you always bring up Torre's sub .500 record before the Yankees?

    Freakin Dope.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Dont worry...Im sure Axholio wont let us down on the next Yankees manager whether it be Piniella or anyone else. He will find ways to make fault and then claim his victory of the nonsense BS he spews.

he can't put down Pinella. Lou was once a mariner.

Arod and the circus he has become needs to go. too much of a distraction. the guy is just not that good (when it counts)
the 1 for 40 something in his last 3 post seasons prove that out.
    Steve
    Good for you.

say what you want about Torre but you can't argue his success with prototypic yankee rosters, higher priced (possibly) high ego/maintenance types, does a great job managing personalities where there talent is already a given.

Pinella did well in tampa bay and does a great job motivating young players, and scrapping together scraps ? that's not a resume that guarantees success with groups of high end veterans. throw in his combustable personality and you have the makings for the true end of the yankees dynasty..

completely possible that in the next 5 years the yanks will continue to erode, bad aged veterans, the core of the yanks starting to leave and retire, replaced with unproved high priced flavor of the months, steinbrenner passes away and the yanks go into the void of new ownership.

This is truly the end of an ERA.
  • I don't see any confirmation on this, just speculation.

How could this statement be made? When were you signed up as Zito's agent?

I personally don't feel that Zito would be good for the Yanks since he could snap at any moment...especially with the expectations and pressure in NY, but I wouldn't make a comment like that without knowing everything involved. Personally, I feel a team like the Texas Rangers could make a deal rich enough to land Zito and they definitely need it. But, I won't guarantee it one way or another because I can admit that I do not know.
