Greatest lineup ever? I think Joe Morgan was the only guy to surmise this - and who really cares what he has to say...

No it isn't the greatest lineup - it's the greatest assembly of players who after a long 162 game season, are unmotivated and couldn't care less about the post season and just want to go home to spend the big money they made during the regular season.

    1) pitching, pitching, pitching
    2) old players
    3) past laurels
    4) typical ny hype
    5) no player in that lineup thought it was important enough to take charge

Well now the yanks really have clinched home field advantage for the rest of the playoffs........go home and enjoy the $280 million or so.

PS, Joe Morgan ain't as smart as he thinks he is.
  • It's certainly a good idea to overhaul the lineup. I've always been in favor of getting rid of Sheff and Giambi. I don't support steriod use, or the losers that are the users. It sure seems that the Yankees should ship more than some of their hitting for some pitchers either in the last year of their contracts; or for prospects. Errod should be put on a platter, to the highest offer goes the garbage. Certainly they can get a quality starter as well as a couple prospects for him. Teams know he can't play with the spotlight on him, so don't expect any "high pressure" franchises to trade for him. His salary is more than willing to be paid for in full by the team getting him, as it stands he's only getting paid 15 million by Steiny. This team has 2 to many outfielders, and Matsui may be the odd man out. Which, I don't want to happen but hey; I can't see the Yankees keeping Matsui/Sheff/Damon/Abreu/Cabrera/Williams.

haha you think bernie's coming back? He's done.

Matsui's the best of that lot...getting rid of him would be a big mistake.

No one is going to offer up a ton of prospects for Arod...nope, not gonna happen. Teams know they have NY over a barrel, and the other teams, NOT ny, will be setting the terms. I could see SF getting him straight up for schmidt, though, and that'd be a good fit. SF GM Sabean has already said they are going younger, and no team is going to be built around Bonds. Put Arod in a town that idolizes their players (unlike ny, where their favorite activity is booing (???) the home town players), and he'd return to his glory numbers.

  • lol, you are crazy if you think NY will ship off Errod for a guy like Schmidty. Williams has stated he'd like to come back next season, also. NY fans boo guys who don't have the heart, and can't take the pressure. That's why Arod will do just fine with a team that's non competitive. I also thought Schmidt is going to be a FA? Maybe I'm off on that one, but that's what I thought.

  • Arod has more value to a team that uses him at SS. If the Cubs are smart, and the Yankees indeed are interested in Aramis Ramirez(and prospects), they should do that trade...put Arod at SS, and then sign a third baseman. So here is why it is smart and what the Cubs would be replacing...

Arod replaces Ramirez, big edge to Arod.

By virtue of Arod then moving to SS, the Cubs are then basically replacing Cedeno with the new third baseman they acquire. Now I don't know which third baseman are available, but I will say for certain that every single one of them would be an upgrade over Cedeno in the lineup!

So what will the Cubs gain? Offensively, they gain an advantage with Arod over Ramirez. Then even if they get a third baseman who is in the .275/18 HR area, that is a HUGE upgrade over Cedeno who is terrible at the plate. That is a large offensive upgrade for their lineup.

Defensively? Arod is a step down at SS vs Cedeno. Whoever they get to play third will most defiately be a step up over Ramirez(and I mean whoever). So it is basically a wash defensively.

That is what the ability of playing SS allows for a team.

Giants do a sign and trade...and Arod doesn't have heart? You're a f'ing moron, ya know that?

And non-competitive? Sure looked like the yankees were the non-competitive team this week. Funny that the week I fly the yankees logo in my sig line, they play their worst ball! I know what I need to do to curse them from now on. Thanks softy!!!

Erod doesn't have heart. Hasn't showed any guile since the Minny series 2 years ago. Non competitive teams, as a team that isn't in a playoff race, isn't a large city, and damn sure not where he is considered THE man. He's proven time and again he can't fill that role, unless it's with a team that's last in their respective division. sign and trade? Your'e the moron if you think Steiny will drop a player like ARod for an overrated(and older) pitcher.

Oh, were you saying something, or just vomiting the same crap you've been reading in those trashy ny tabloids all year?

Time to think for yourself, sparky.
