AL Comeback Player of the Year

Jim Thome won it. Personally I would have given it to Frank Thomas.

Anyone know why MLB won't release the results of the voting? I'd like to see how close this one was.

I think both were good canditates for the award, but I would have given it to Thomas. I had him washed up and the fact that the A's made the playoffs make it all Thomas IMO.
  • I believe Thomas deserves it. Not only did he outproduce his last 2 seasons this year, he was in a lineup with considerably less punch and helped Oakland to the playoffs. Thome? Well, we all see how well the White Sox season ended. He came back but lets face it, he was not written off like Thomas was.

Comeback player of the year isn't like the MVP...its award isn't tied to their teams successes or failures.

Perhaps. But Thomas was coming off of *two* really bad and/or heavily injured seasons, not just one. And I think a lot more people thought Thomas was "finished" than Thome.

lol. I know this. The only MVP winner not to play in the playoffs(out of the last 16 mvps) was your boy Errod in Texas. Philly was given a good prospect for Thome, and Thomas was just let go. Thomas came back and outproduced his last 2 seasons.

    I didn't say playoffs...I said success.

Philly was successful this year, being in the playoffs until the final week, so Howard should be given the MVP.

Arod garnered a 6th place vote in 2001, despite outperforming everyone above him not named Ichiro. Arod should have 4 MVPs on his resume...as his numbers in 2 years when he was playing for texas were that much better than anyone else.

Thome and Thomas were both good candidates, but Thome had the bigger impact.
  • Considering Thomas was booted out the door in favor of Thome, Thomas should have been given more consideration.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

How did Thome have a bigger impact than Thomas? Thome came to a World Series winning team. They didn't make the playoffs. Thomas went to a team that was 0-9 in deciding playoff games and wasn't even predicted to be IN the playoffs(Most though the Angels were taking the AL West); and now they have already swept the Twins.

Thomas didn't affect the A's making the playoffs - their pitching did.

Maybe someday you'll know sports...nahhh that'll never happen.
  • Frank Thomas should have won it. and in spite of the A's pitching the A's would'nt be where they are without his contribution this year.
