Grades in from my 1st PCGS Lincoln Wheat Bulk Submission

First off I wanted to say thanks again to LincolnsRule for the info he provided regarding the Bulk Submission process and to others who commented as well (forgive if I can't remember the various screenames).

I submitted 118 coins on the 29th of August and just got my grades today on my first PCGS Bulk Submission. These were a very nice collection that I've been accumulating for a while. Overall I'm happy with the grades with the exception of the 51-Ps, which where actually some of the strongest of the group. Only 3 made the grade even though 20 were sent in, with 8 being strong PCGS quality in my grading opinion. Oh well, I can always send in the rejects for a another shot

Heres the breakdown:

    Very impressive results.

  • What? You only slab MS66s?
  • What? You only slab MS66s?

Sent them in with a minimum grade of MS-66 because 65s are worth less than the slab fees, just not worth it unless they were 1953 or 54-Ps.
  • What no 67s? image

    Just kidding. Well done!
  • What no 67s?

That's what I said lol. PCGS is brutal on giving out MS-67s right now, at least from what I've seen in my last few submissions. One of the coins in the 66 holder in the above bulk order is a monster 67, but they wouldn't do it.

I made a 1948-D Lincoln MS-67 Red at PCGS recently, a pretty tough date, but that seemed to be a fluke, because I have a 1958-P that's markedly superior that I just sent in it was 66'ed (maybe I should call it "deep sixed" lol). The 57-P that Bulk graded 66 was also superior to the 48-D, but both are worth a lot more in PCGS plastic so I guess it's going to take a few times if I'm lucky.

You mean you don't pay if the minimum grade is not met? I thought you did...

    Any clarification would be appreciated.

Actually, if your order doesn't make 60% of the minimum grade they charge $5 per rejected coin, at least officially. My order made the minimum so I didn't have the problem. I've heard from some people that if you're within reason they won't charge and by others that they will, so I don't want to give you any msleading info. They tell you on the phone that they will charge reject fees but will also call or email you if you're way off, giving you the chance to have the order sent back before any further charges rack up.

To give you an idea their grading, I sent in around 40 1957-P Lincolns, 95% of which I thought were very strong MS-66s and only 17 made it! The 17 that made it were either PQ or 66.5's or higher. This was a large collection that I've saved up for quite a while, so I doubt I'll ever be able to do this well again unless I get lucky.

    Hope that helps.
  • WheatFanatic - Thanks for the info. and again, nice submission!
