Why start the NHL in Oct.?

Who is thinking of hockey right now? I guess some diehard fans but we are right at the start of MLB
playoffs, the NFL and college football. The NHL will get next to no media coverage at this time. The NHL
season and playoffs seem to go on forever Oct. to mid June.

The NHL gets no media coverage in the U.S. anyway. Drop the puck!

They should really start in January and have about a 45-50 game schedule...

The answer is: most Canadian males. Trust me, I'm baseball fan who lives in Canada. Hockey highlights trump baseball highlights and football highlights up here.

You should know it's usually perfect for us Michigan residents. The Tigers are usually done by now. The Lions are almost always dead in the water (as they are this year). If you're a State fan, any kind of championship hopes are already up in flames (luckily I'm a Blue fan). So the Wings are the only thing to watch until something else starts. I am not a real baseball fan (or even professional basketball) for the most part as the game can be ungodly slow and boring, so I much prefer a longer hockey season anywho.

    GO WINGS!!!

The season and playoffs just seem too long for a sport that has such a low profile for the most part with
pockets of die hard fans here and there.
  • Why start the NHL now? Easy so then the rest of us who hate baseball will have an alternative image Also... NFL is 2 nights a week, college football is 1. NHL is all week long. Baseball doesnt count image

Why start the NHL at all?

Apathy reigns supreme when you mention the NHL to the American sports fan. No one here cares.

And yet fan attendance seems to be increasing. Interesting...lol. Its funny how because certain people dont like it or dont care about it, it all of a sudden is "noone here cares"...lol

It's a great time of year if you're into all the sports but it can be overkill: baseball playoffs, college football, pro football, hockey, basketball right around the corner. Personally, I like this time of year as baseball and hockey are my two main sports- the beginning of one sport at the end of another.
