5 players are within 50 home runs of 500. It may not mean as much as it used to, but it is still quite an accomplishment.

Frank Thomas - 487 - 13 away
Jim Thome - 472 - 28 away
Manny Ramirez - 470 - 30 away
Alex Rodriguez - 464 - 36 away
Gary Sheffield - 455 - 45 away (ok a longshot, I know)

Also, Craig Biggio is only 70 hits away from 3,000 and Bonds 159 away.


Oh yeah, and the playoffs start tonight too. image

    Jeff Bagwell is only 51 away from 500 but it looks like his career is done.

    So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    All seven guys you listed are virtual locks for the HOF(with Sheff being the weakest candidate).

    One interesting fact I heard; this season(the first since 18-- something) a shortstop and 2bagger on the same team both hit over .340.
