Joe G fired from marlins...

Comments

  • Just another case of a team owner allowing his ego to get in the way of winning. Marlins loss is the Cubs gain.

I guess they had to fire him before he was named NL Coach of the Year! image
  • Is he a lock to manage the Cubs?

The story I heard was that his fate was sealed when the Marlins' owner Jeff Laurie was verbally abusing an umpire from his seat behind the plate during a game and Joe essentially told him to can it from the dugout. You can only imagine the indignity that Jeff the Loser felt at that point being shown up by his overachieving rookie manager!

Girardi's firing is another example of how many owners in baseball dont care at all about winning, even if it makes great fiscal sense.

Word is that Joe is even worse then Buck Showalter as far as trying to control every fine detail in his clubhouse. The vibe I get is that Joe may not me managing next year ..... he may have to change his ways regardless of the excellent job he did this year.

That style of managing may not work or quickly wear thin in a veteran clubhouse but there are many young teams out there that could really use a guy like Girardi to shake things up. I mean, c'mon, most people had the Marlins losing 100 games easy this year and what he did what that club to get them as far as he did is simply amazing. It'd be ridiculous if he gets passed on to manage because of a so-called reputation that his owner in Fla is probably behind.

  • I believe Joe Girardi WILL manage next year. But not for the Cubbies. I honestly think he has a good shot at becoming the next Washington Nationals manager. A young team, and a team that Joe could put his stamp on.

  • I'd love to see him come here and manage Grote. I live about 10-15 minutes from RFK, and even closer to the new stadium thats slated to be built. The team is young, but I'm a fan. I'm a big fan of Joe from his Clipper days so hopefully the new owners will see that this guy can get a group of players going in the right direction.

Lou Pinella will be managing somewhere next year. He gets first dibs I think .... I hope Joe lands somewhere ... who the hell knows!

  • Pinella is a lock for a gig. I'm a fan of his, I can see him landing in Wrigley. That team definitly needs a shakeup, and Lou seems primed for that job.

Word on the street is Sweet Lou is heading to SF to manage the Giants.

Girardi most likely will coach the cubs.

  • I hope Lou doesn't end up in San Fran(I've heard that as well); I just don't think Lou is the type of manager you get when you're in a rebuilding era. Maybe thats just me.

yeah, I heard San Fran, Cubs, and even the NAts in regards to Sweet Lou ...... he will have his pick.

  • I'd love to see him come to the Nats. Don't think it'll happen, but that team has a lot of potential. If the owners open up their pockets they can keep Sori and have one of the better outfields in baseball. Also, their is an opening for them to trade for Andruw Jones(I know I know, same division) but he'd be a great addition. Who knows really?

I would like to see Bob Brenly manage the Cubs. He has been the color guy for 2 years and I love listening to him. He's not well polished as a color guy, but the dude knows baseball. I loved when Dusty did sometihng and Brenly responded with, "Here's what I would have done."

BTW, he loves the town and I actually had a drink with him one night at The Lodge. He'd be a perfect fit.

Whomever gets Girardi will be a much better team for it.

I can't stand that we had to lose him just because of a personal squabble. But, what can you expect from a management group that has their heads firmly placed within their colin walls! But, at least we ended up with the 2nd guy we wanted last year.

We've got great baseball people involved with the organization....but, if the owner doesn't want to set aside his personal issues, then we will always be limited. Plus, it's hard to get a fan following when the team is constantly threatening to leave the area and/or cut back on payroll. It's just unbelievably frustrating to be a Marlins fan.

I grew up a Dodgers fan (and still am), but I'm also a Marlins fan because I've lived here in South Florida since before the inception of the team. It's just tough to be a fan.

Ah so you are the one (marlins fan). I'd like to here both sides of this story. I hope whoever hires Girardi explains to him the pecking order. I've read from day one he has gone around folks. In any organization, business or sports that is job suicide. You can learn to play the political game without selling your soul. It seems to me for a relative new franchise they have manage quite well with and withour Girardi. Having said this I hope the Cubbies hire him.
  • I really am enamored by the Marlins; I can say with 100% honesty that they are one of the best run franchises in professional sports. Now, I do not mean this from a fans perspective; but from a business(cost/performance) ratio. 2 championships; and then they dump all their now overpriced stars for highly rated prospects. It works.

  • According to the sports radio know-it-alls, Pinella is the front runner for the Cubs job and Girardi is after Lou. But Lou will want a hefty salary.

    We will see.

I thought the concensus was that Lou would end up with the Giants. Hmm...maybe trying to push his price up a bit?
