Topps Turkey Red

What's the deal with this set. what do they mean by 'living set'? How are the cards, do they look good? Do they hold value or are they in the vein of Heritage and A&G?????

thanks

I think living set refers to the fact that, numerical, the 2006 Turkey Red checklisted started where the '05s left off.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

so in a sense and update set, but really not, as I think all the players in last years Turkey Red will have cards in the 06 product. This
issue has one problem. After opening Allen and Ginter, this product will be really disappointing.

I agree. It's gonna be tough for any set to follow this one!
  • Any word on a 2007 Allen & Ginter? Would love to try for another set of these!!!!!!

It's hard to think they wouldn't continue with the A&G theme, as hot as it is. And the fact that anyone from any field of endeavor is eligible to be featured (or anyTHING, for that matter - i.e., the Statue of Liberty), the possibilities are endless.

As to the 2006 Turkey Red, I've got a hobby box on the way, and I'm actually hoping it won't be as good as A&G. I can't afford to get hooked on another set.

Here is a scan of a few selected 2006 Turkey Reds I got out of a few packs. I like them a lot, but I agree A&G is an awesome product.

Since they've done N28/N29's (Allen and Ginters) I'd love to see a set next year of N162 Goodwins. Here's a couple from vcp.com

wow, too rights, Griffins. That would be something to see for the Topps 07 A&G iteration.

of course, '34-'36 Diamond Stars would be a good choice as well:
I love the first one- ol' Gus is about to get knocked on his can!

    or '33 Delong

  • Bought some Turkey Red today, stink-a-roo!!!!!!

Me no likey at all. Horrible pictures and my shop guy says they are not selling like last year already. He is looking forward to next seasons Allen & Ginter. They went like gangbusters!!!!!

So I will find a Jeter and Posada Turley Red for the boy's collection and move on......

I'm also not loving it. My hobby box came today and I've gone through a few packs. The surface texturing is really overdone and washes out a lot of the images. There's also a lot of chipping on the edges and dinged corners even right out of the pack. And I see that the Jim Edmonds jersey I pulled #'d to 99 sells for about $3 delivered on eBay.

  • I have read similiar complaints on other boards. I think one post I recalled kind of summed it " are they suppose to be like this?"
  • Opened up my first blaster box yesterday from Target and wasn't impressed either. It's tough to make out the faces on many of the cards. No cool inserts either.

I'm stickin to the A&Gs for now. Still, one of the best modern sets to come out in recent years IMHO!

If anyone is collecting cards from the 06 Turkey Reds, lmk. I have a bunch of singles now.

(and I'm still collecting a 06AG minis set- anyone have doubles to trade? PM me!)

I had never seen these before. Is this the set with only 8 cards for the complete set? Or, are there only 8 baseball players in the set? Wow...some high prices for these things! I love the look of them!

onegaucho: Since you have singles available, I would be interested in color parallels of:

    #340-Brian Roberts
#437-Chad Tracy (all but the Red and White)
#543-Russ Adams (all but the Red)

Also have some interest in some base/parallels of Ichiro, Mickey Mantle, Carl Yasztremski (have base), and Nolan Ryan(have base) cards in the set.

Thanks in advance to you or anyone else who can help.
