Kornheiser acts like a rookie. How does he get his first announcing job as part of MNF?
Miller is just boring. He looks like he is reading everything from a script.
And, during the halftime show, do we have to listen to crazy drunken fans screaming over the ESPN announcers during the whole halftime show? You are on the field ESPN - we get it.
I still think that Dierdorf was the best MNF color guy they ever had, and the broadcasts have never been the same since they kicked him to the curb.
<< <i>Whether Kornheiser is the "worst" I don't know. But I know this...he stinks! >>
I think Wilbon would have been much better, FWIW. Or even someone like Golig or Greenberg if they wanted to keep the hiring in-house.
<< <i>Mike Golic would have been an excellent choice. Golic would be such a great choice, there's probably some reason why he isn't doing it. I think for the most part with NFL football you need guys doing color who played the game. >>
I agree with that, although I haven't figured out why . In every other sport you have color guys who never played and who do a fine job, but for some reason football (at least the NFL) is different.?

I disagree with that in other sports the color guys never played the game.
In Chicago, I grew up listneing to Steve Stone who was color along side HarrY Caray. Stoney played the game for over a decade and is a knowledgable guy. Now the color guy for the Cubs is Bob Brenley and for the White Sox(who failed to make the playoffs ) its Darren Jackson. Cubs radio is Ron Santo on color. For the Bulls, Johnny Kerr was always the color guy, and still is.
ESPN baseball has Joe Morgan. While I hate most of what he says, he has played the game.
Nationally, NBA has Barkley or Magic or Doug Collins or Doc Rivers or Mike Fratello or Len Elmore(NCAA).

He's smart, funny, and doesn't pretend to know it all...he's a regular guy.
Golic would have been terrible - he's a blowhard who tries to intimidate guys on the radio, and he's a bitter man for Tony K. getting what he felt was 'his' job.

Your kidding right? Everyone knows that comment he made about tony's first mnf game was accurate, hell even willbon agreed. Tony K blew up on him like a joke. Golic knows much more and would've been 10x better.
I shoulda phrased my one comment as Kornheiser stinks "as" a color man - which of course he does. Kornheiser woulda been MUCH better doing the halftime show with the commentary then, and no question that's where he may eventually windup - he won't be staying as a color man.
I guess as far as color men goes, it depends on perspective. Anybody with "sports knowledge" could technically do it, but I would just rather hear the color from someone who played the game and truly understands the game. During the game, I'd rather hear the viewpoints and opinions from a former player than say a reporter. A player fully understands what's going on, gets the words out right away during a game, whereby someone who hasn't played the game has to think about it first before commenting. You see that often with Kornheiser - he's commenting on a play from two or three plays ago...to me that's a bit irritating during a live game - I want immediate commentary right after the play.
Kornheiser will be gone from MNF at the end of the season - no question about it. Nothing wrong with Kornheider per se and I like him...he's just not a color man...and it's not even debatable.
<< <i>Sorry, I think golic blows goats....greenburg is infinitely more interesting than that thug. I think it's apparent which talent the execs thought were better - Tony K got the job, golics shlepping the morning show. >>
I can't stand Greeny on Mike and Mike(I do get to watch maybe a half hour or so a day); I find him so damn annoying. I don't know exactly why. I'm a fan of Golic and Mark Schlerich(spelled wrong, used to play O-line on Denver).

He has some "average guy" perspective on the game , which can sometimes be a refreshing change of pace from ultra-technical specific references, that some seem to go out of their way to promote the complexity of a game, which grammer school kids do play. It's cool to call it the Red Zone, a mysterious, heated-up, area of combat, but it simply is............ close to the goal line.
And as for good commentary, Mel Allen, Harry Carey, Curt Gowdey, Jack Buck, and several more whom I believe never played professionally, could paint a vivid picture with their words, and provide enlighting insight, whlie being a real additional feature to the actual game itself. It might help, but it is not a requirement to be a former pro to be a great sportscaster.

Collinsworth is excellent.
My favorite tandem now is Dick Stockton and Darryl "Moose" Johnston. Stockton is just outstanding at anything he does. Him and Tom Heinson were fantastic at CBS basketball.
Erik
I agree with you there. He's defintely more suited to a studio show than in the booth. And he does make Theismann look good.

But he blows chunks on MNF. It's like he frequently can't think of anything good to say, so he comes up with comments of questionable relevance. Terrible color person!!
