Put steak-ums or shaved steak in pan, salt and pepper to taste, fry until brown. Add american cheese (WHITE, not orange) and let melt.
When done, stuff as much of the peppers, onions, and steak w/cheese as you can in a hoagie and enjoy!! MMMmmmmm!!!
Edit to add the cheese!
30 minutes on the elliptical down the drain

lol, sorry stown I'm in college as well as working on a construction apprenticeship. I'm saying, I went to Giant last week and got stouffers meals(the big sizes) for under 2 bucks a pop. That's a whole meal. Shoot, I'll take that any day of the week. I'm not saying they're healthy for you, but you can't beat the price. Btw, I've never worked at a grocery store, and never will.

Steak Ums are for people who really do not know any better.
Anyone outside of the Philly area can go to a nice meat market and pick up some chipped steak. On a bed of onions, cook em up. While cooking, heat a jar o'whiz. After piling the steak and onions on the roll (the most important part) apply the whiz ... trust me.

You are so right. I have a good source of shaved steak here at a local meat store. (Yum!)
Tell some of those street vendors in Philly to stop using Steak-Umms!! They should lose thier license for that!!

Most of them should lose their license anyway for not having fresh water and breeding bacteria.
"I'll have a falafel, and a lamb turd on a stick please."
Guess the touristas figure they're getting a real Philly from the vendors.
Hit S. Philly as 1420 says, or at least the Reading Terminal Market if you're in town at the Convention Center.
I'll be there in December for the Panthers game.
Yes, Cheez Whiz is the sh!t. Nothing better although you can get different sliced cheeses at most places instead.
The roll is the secret. Amoroso's baby!!
<< <i>Will someone please explain to me what a steak-um is? >>
Faux steak sandwich meat.
Grind some meat and what's left from the bull, add some fillers and binders, and form into a loaf.
Cut into thin slices and freeze.
Prepare by frying lightly turning into a gray thin slab of mystery meat.
Add tons of cheese to mask the flavor, then pick the gristle from your teeth for the next half hour.
Mistakenly used for Philly cheesesteaks by unknowing masses around the country.
You're joking, right?
