Possibly the most asinine question ever asked

So while I fully expect to get laughed off the board for asking it I'm still going to do it. image

Has anyone ever heard of a discovery of unopened (I'm not sure of how they were packaged) packs of cigarettes that contained tobacco cards (not necessarily the popular 1909-1911 T baseball cards but just any, including nonsport)?

Okay, let the pointing and snickering begin. image

I believe about 15-20 yrs ago ther was a find of Piedmont or Old Mill packs that contained 1 card per
pack of cigarettes turned up at one of the national shows, I'm sure there are other finds. but I am not up on the prewar material. Talk about the price of a pack of cigarettes!LINK
  • Nice link Diamondman, thanks. That was a great read. I'd be curious to know what he paid at the yard sale. image

  • I am not sure if people age cigars and cigarettes like they do wine. If so, a few finds might be possible.

Looking at how the cards were situated in the pack, it's amazing any tobacco card corners are above NM. Then again, a LOT of them have been given a little 'help'...
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

    Hi Arthur

Unopened Red Man packs comes to mind. They come up from time to time - the card is in plain view.

Griffins has some unopened with pics e.g.

    Perhaps he'll post it.
