Is this something Krause has done perhaps?

If not, I think I'd forward the e-mail to them.
Sure is a neat idea, though.

I have seen these being sold out of Russia on EBay. The disclaimer is that you are paying for a blank CD and catalogues come as a "preview", after viewing which you "promise" to buy the paper version.

I don't know if that would cover their butts in U.S., but Russia can care less.

I agree that it's a neat idea, though. Having catalogues in PDF format would allow putting it on a PDA, like Palm Pilot, giving you a reference wherever you are. Beats lugging a couple of telephone-book-sized catalogues to a coin show.

Darn industrious bootleggers! That's a lot of stuff to scan.. looks pretty nice too!

If I were Krause I'd buy a copy, apply copyrights and sell it! The criminals just saved them a bunch of time and money scanning it all image

image gr8 idea!! I do a similar thing myself.. scan my series in Krause and convert to pdf. There are only about 100 odd pages and I am not much concerned about the latest prices, just the guidelines. I have a copy on my laptop so is a gr8 reference when I am out of town. Friends have asked me to share the same, but it is a strict no-no.
  • I ran across some of those a few months ago - they were not put out by Krause. But danged if I know why they'd bother doing it anymore - you can get the real thing now.

I picked up one of those Russian bootleg CD's on Russian Copper Coinage a little while back before I realized it was a bootleg copy. It arrived with no problems and I was supprised to find that it was really a very high quality work. The images were sharp and clear, the text was searchable. I was very impressed. I would have liked to have purchased some of his other copies as well, but I won't support the copyright infringement.

Nice. Linking mechanism here is too effing stupid to understand an https prefix. Link above doesn't work, and if you try to edit it, the board automatically sticks the http prefix in front of it. Lame.

Anyway, the only problem is that Krause is insane if they think people will fork out that much.

    $10 per month PER VOLUME????

After 5 months I've paid for the cost of the paper catalog... and that assumes that I replace each volume every year (which you can't since a new version of every version doesn't come out each year).

    For 1600-2000 they expect $40 a month.

    No thanks.

Love the idea, despise the pricing.

Oh yeah, the cynical conspiratist in me wonders if this bootleg copy doesn't contain some embedded trojans intended to relieve you of sensitive 'identity theft' numbers and such......image
