2 Coin 20th Anniversary Set

I am seriously doubting I will get my 3 coin AGE Set and have decided to replace my order for the two coin 20th Anniversary Set.
I can see these having some potential only if they are slabbed as 20th Anniversary Sets with only a mintage of 30,000 with this labeling. True they are making probably 100,000's of these in single issue but I still see some potential. I think anything with the 20th Anniversary labeling or mint packaging is going to have potential. In light of what I am hearing that the mint most likely sold out of AGE sets probably within a few hours. I will be sending these to PCGS if I get them. There will be a lot of dissapointed mint customers I believe coming this Oct. 6 th. I won't be buying the AGE set on ebay either by the 6th I see these sets raw in the 5000's. I won't buy the AGE sets now because I am in limbo as to whether I will get my AGE set from the mint. That PCGS 70 that sold for $5900.00 will be a bargain I believe. So its a wait and see attitude here for me.

I think that it is ludicrous to think that there are anywhere near 30,000 people who care about the stupid label such that there is profit potential. In the short term, I may be wrong about the profit potential, but in the long term, I expect to be right.

In light of the AGE being sold out so soon and the huge demand for anything 20th Anniversary I can see it. The 20th anniversary Gold One Ounce will be hard to get now and only available now in the 2-coin set now that the AGE sets are sold out. There is a lot of potential there.

You don't need '30,000 people who care about the stupid label' to create a profit potential, IMO. You only need 2 and an auction. I think there are more than 2.
I don't think it is ludicrous to think these have potential if you send them in unopened for the dual 'First Strike/20th Anniversary Set' designation. I think they will do quite well as a matter of fact. The individual coins are not going to be eligible for the dual designation under any scenario.

Amen Greg, it's about coins, not plastic.

There is a first strike in the picture and PCGS still won't recognize it... can anyone see it ?

The real sleeper in this 20th Anniversary fiasco in my opinion will be the 4 coin uncirculated set with the W mint mark. At $1,350 not many will be sold and the set overlooked.

Are the uncirculated coins really "20th Anniversary" and labeled as such? Or are they merely the first year of uncirculateds? On a side note, I have a 1992 uncirculated ASE in a green velvet box and green outer box. This came from the US Mint, so I'm unsure as to whether the Mint can claim these new coins as a "new" series, at least in silver.

I too believe that not many people will be buying the Uncirculated AE gold either in set of 4 coins or as a single coin. I for one never thought of acquiring even one more Unc AE. As a result, the quantity sold by the Mint will not be much higher than 30K and in time these Unc AE would command a premium.

The true sleeps actually are the Unc 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz because the Unc AE 4 coin set will have the sell out quantity of less than 5000.

Well, one wonders about what the actual limits will be for the Unc. "W" pieces. Also what about the plats that have the same rev. as the proofs? They could outsleep any of the others (but tag the buyer with a 2580 admission price)...

I think the 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10 could be sleepers, but I'm not sure what your 'less than 5000' means.

This is what it says under the 2 coin selection and the 3 coin silver:

"Note: The American Eagle Gold and Silver Uncirculated Coins will be available as individual coin option beginning September 28, 2006. These coins will be minted to demand."

Hmmm, seems the Mint likes labels.

About the only people who don't thing the 2006 regular proof coin is a 20th Anniversary coin is PCGS.

    THEY FINALLY GOT THE MESSAGE!

Refunds are being offered to buyers of the American Eagle 20th Anniversary Gold and Silver Set who feel they were misled into purchasing the $850 set when it went on sale Aug. 30 and want to return them.

The set has a maximum mintage of 20,000. Some buyers assumed that was it as far as availability of 2006-W uncirculated one-ounce American Eagle gold and silver coins. That turned out to be an incorrect assumption. On Sept. 28, individual coins became available for sale.

The Mint issued a statement to correct the problem and in an interview with Numismatic News, Mint Director Edmund C. Moy apologized.

“While the United States Mint is pleased to offer both the special Anniversary Sets and the first new Uncirculated American Eagles to our customers in the year celebrating the 20th anniversary of the American Eagle program, we do acknowledge that our communication regarding the intent, timing and pricing of these two programs could have been clearer. We regret any confusion that occurred, and have offered a full refund to any customer who is not satisfied and wishes to return their sets,” the statement said.

Where do you find this 4 coin set? I looked, but could not find it on the US Mint site.

    Thanks!
