Just got a card in the mail...

and it absolutely REEKED of smoke. It wasn't as much the card, in fact, as the copy of the invoice which I sent with my payment---How hard can it be to keep something smoke free when opening an envelope??? Anyone have this happen before?

  • yes, I have had entire sets smell like smoke. Some guys have said baking soda will help the smell. It hasn't done too much in my experience. If the card is in a toploader, then I think the smell starts to finally go away after awhile. Smoking is horrible people!!
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

Ugh. I hate that. I'll sometimes get stuff like that too. If you leave it out, raw, in the open for a few days to air out, the smell usually goes away for the most part.

  • Only purchase items that come from a smoke free home. Ash trays rule......
  • I quit smoking about 3 weeks ago. whew. anyways my Mom had some old Nintendo games for me to sell. She smoked in her house. When I smoked I never did in my house. Her games smelled so strong lik esmoke. I was able to clean the games almost perfectly but the paper instructions never lost the odor after 2 weeks of airing out. Good Luck.

I do not smoke, but I have had people complain
    about stuff I shipped - not paper/cards - smelling
    like smoke.

Some people are ultra-sensitive to it, I guess.

I have been selling stuff for many years and I
never thought about "smoke smells" until I
started seeing the eBay listings that say, "These
cards come from a smoke-free home."

I am just not "refined" enough to put that in any
    of my listings.

  • For what its worth you can buy OZONE machines that will neutralize the smoke smell. From what I understand you just put the cards in a room with this machine and it takes out the smoke smell without harming the cards. Not really cheap units but effective.image

I have wondered before if that would absorb in the cards. A good reason to only get the best. image
