The problem you run into with stuff like this is that even if HE didn't search the box it's possible it was searched by a previous owner. Also, anyone with a clue (i.e., anyone who knows about grading) wouldn't forgo the extra money that a graded box would bring just because it's inconvenient to get the box graded.
He has sold some other wax boxes for some decent money and has decent feedback. Personally I would pass. You likely would get a good deal price wise, but I think you will regret the purchase.
<< <i>Where are good sources for older wax boxes? >>
I would stick with reputable dealers. BBCE, BBCKid(when he has inventory) and Dave and Adams all usally have stuff you can search and order on-line. There are more and I am sure guys will chime in.
You may want to change the title of the thread to "Where are good sources for older wax boxes?" and you may have more responses.
I emailed him and asked if i could pick the item up if i win since it is such a valuable transaction. here is the response i got
<<Hello, working two jobs and two kids in athletics I will not have time to wait for people to show to pick up , you are actually the first person ever to ask me that. Thanks for your email.>>
RESEALER!!! unfortunately most of the stuff that gets listed regularly are from resealers. their are few that you can trust no questions asked , bbcexchange , mark murphy and graded boxes . outside of that it takes tons of research experience and a good nose. this seller is notorious another one that you may ask next is overtime , he lists individual pack lots which are usually resealed.
here is one but all of the packs are graded , not sure if that is what you are looking for , the box itself looks ratty.
<< <i>I actually found another, no paypal. Anyone know this seller? His feedback does show some large items sold. Think he/she's legit? Thanks again for you inputs! Jason >>
Hello Jason, Looks Legit to me, just because he does not get his wax packs or boxes graded does not mean they are not good. I used to own a store from 86 to 99 and did quite a few shows and dealt mostly in wax. still have some older unopened wax and some cellos and racks with stars on top. I am not direct with GAI and donot have any of my wax graded (yet) , yes someone before him might have searched it and if you are not familar with a few (I call them tests) or signs to look for when buying older wax stay away. A lot of the old timers did'nt beleive in getting their cards graded either does this make everyone who sells raw cards (people who trim cards) ? Just in finishing why not contact a few of the more recent buyers of his products and see if they opened them or had them graded and see what their responses are? On another note 1986-87 Fleer Basketball on most boxes can be searched and all the Jordan RC & stickers can be taken out of the box without ever opening a pack, hey and then send the remaining 30 packs to GAI for grading as unopened unsearched packs of 86-87 fleer packs. On legit boxes of 86 fleer you would always get 3 complete sets and 3 complete sets of stickers, and occasionally a 4th Jordan RC. Just because he does not take Paypal could be he does not have a Premier or business acct or just does not want to pay the paypal fees. Also the link above my post is Bill Goodwin Out of St Louis a great person (One of the Best) to deal with Just MOO
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

but he'll have time to pack them right and mail them out...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Thanks for that lead!! I could always pick up a less ratty empty box. It's nice to see so many graded packs together, and all in good shape.
I thank everyone for there responses too!

As for resealing, years ago, I opened some donruss packs, and resealed them with a hot butter knife. Then I compared them with untampered packs. (no, I never sold a resealed pack) I am a jeweler/gemologist so I put the packs under a loupe and then a microscope and noticed the difference in the pattern of melted wax. I have found that untampered packs have small wax lines and blots that are continuous in pattern across the middle flap. In a resealed pack the pattern either breaks or there is no pattern at all. I found it to be an interesting experiment. I though some people here might find that usefull.
