Is there something special about this '2'?
It looks like there is a little doubling in the '2' in '1942'. Is there any known double die other than the 2/1 for this date?
I simply cannot get a good pic of it, and yes, I know that it is smeared-looking, but it looks like it was doubled before that incident

I hope that helps.
In addition, to me mechanical doubling looks doubled underneath the letters while die doubling looks doubled on top of the letters. If that makes any sense to anyone other than myself.

I like Amanda's description of the difference between strike doubling, where the die bounces during the strike compared to hub doubling, where the doubled image is on the die.
BTW, the damaged numerals appear to be from a counting machine. Beware of the effects of metal being moved around in this process.
