Newbie on Deck
Hi Folks!
Looks like I'm the latest "fresh meat" on the block.
I was born in 1958 so my favorite series is Frankies, both cameo proofs and toners, although I'll collect anything that strikes my fancy. I started on coins by investing in them in the late '80's for portfolio diversification knowing absolutely nothing about them. I bought all the way up on the bubble... man it was fun watching the portfolio value go up by X% a week... and then had my head and my ass handed to me on a platter when things crashed. A tough but good lesson, it protected me later on in the dotcom boom/bust (I live in the SF Bay Area). Anyhow, when clearing out the debris of coin purchases back then I actually started to look and learn about the coins... keeping the coins that floated my boat. Over time I became an collector.
So, let's see if I can include an image here. If it comes out it's a pr67dcam and the slight dot you may see on the cheek is an artifact from imaging... it does not exist on the coin.

Oh, yeah, what's the deal with avatars? When I signed in they gave me a list of avatars, none of which included just a blank avatar... so I'm using someone else's avatar, Lucie's I think. I apologize to the owner of it. Could someone please help a clueless newbie delete the avatar, and eventually I'll post my own. Thank you.

As to questions...

I'm a newbie, what is a JWCAMEO?
Oh, maybe I ought to point out that a couple of my Frankies were plate coins (plates #3 and 46) for Tomaska's first book on Cameo coinage (1991). While I own a bunch of 1958 cameo Frankies, I've been looking for 17 years for a coin from the one 1958 die that made MONSTER cameos, probably on the order of 10-20 at most. I finally found this coin this year after 17 years of looking.

PCGS.
Finally, my Opus has a Santa Claus hat. Don't forget to put lot's of sunscreen on yours. Flightless Antarctic waterfowl have a tough time with the sun in the tropics.
