Yea, doubling is always a nice bonus. Personally I felt it was VF20 as well, so I'm with you and relicsncoins so far. My other FE was AG at best and the price was right, so added it to my collection.

I couldn't find much with google on date doubling and rarity, maybe the FE experts will chime in tomorrow on how common it is in that series/year.

There is another nice bonus too, but I can't get a good pic, but the "RICA" in America and the very tip of the tail is also doubled.
EDIT: Finally got a nice enoug pic:

    Sorry, no bonus.

Strike doubling. The date and Eagle/Legend are added to the die during seperate processes, so doubling on both is a sure sign of strike doubling. (until 1909 for cents). Strike doubling is not a variety.

There are books on the subject....image

Strike doubling is still a bonus to me, even if it isn't a monetary bonus. It's something more to play show and tell with image I even got a "Cool" out of my wife, instead of the usual how much did that one cost - that's a big bonus in itself.

Laughing at StrikeOutXXX about the wife's comment.

I'd go with VF30 on this, but I'll add that it does look like it's seen a bath. (just in my view) I hope it hasn't, but it looks that way.

    happy saturday,

Thanks for the guesses - I can live with VF - and I can really live with a strike-doubled VF.

I'm not sure on the bath part - I can tell you although my pictures sometimes are good, my lighting still sucks royally, especially since my wife reconfiscated her OTT quilting light. The coin is brighter than the pictures, and I thought it might seem a bit brighter than a VF coin should look, so I won't disagree with you. The 1st close-up of the date is more true to the whole color of the coin. If I believe the auctioneer, the coin had sat in a house untouched for nearly 50 years, so if it was, I think it was long ago.
