In searching beaches...where is the best place to search:

The waters edge or back away from the water more in the middle of the sand? Or just detect the whole beach?

I have my best luck up here in the northeast either mid way, or back where sand meets grass or shade trees.

Look at people on the beach---They put down the blanket along the dry sand just back from the high tide line.
THAT IS THE FIRST PLACE TO HUNT.

As the beach gets more people you will get another line behind the first...Ect Ect.

People loose things in the water. At LOW tide you can get to the wet sand and hunt it.

I've done fairly well at beach volleyball courts and near the parking areas where the sand meets the asphalt. Seems like people walking back to their cars are pulling keys out of their pockets and losing stuff in the proces.

Well I have never been to Panama City so I do not know how the beaches look...but I will find out...just hope a Hurricane does not stop my trip or I am not there when one comes in.

here are your beach zones.....

*paths and walkways...always search the beaches exit/entrance area's, dunes are usually off limits!
*picinic areas boo boo....you may get lucky and find a picinic basket. lots of trash!
*dry sand.....look for butt prints in the sand and search the blanket zones.
*wet sand.....it's either hit or miss, look for cuts in the sand.
*the mommy zone....shore to knee deep water, where the mommies play with the kids and lose their rings.
*knee to chest high water....the gold zone!

a lot depends on the conditions at your beach....all things equal, get in the water, i've found more good stuff in the mommy zone than in the sand.....good luck.....dp
