Does hoarding of key and semi-key dates discourage you from starting a collection?

Barber coins are an excellent example. Heavy hoarding has dried up the supply of such coins.
All glory is fleeting.

Prices for the stoppers are what discourage me. Of course, over time, I suppose hoarding could affect that as well (at least the hoarders are hoping it is)...
the earlier series SEATED capped bust DRAPED BUST trade dollars FLOWING HAIR et. el.
and mostly type
are better
and more sexy
also mucho more historical
and value opportunity coins

Just ask Goose and all his 1822 dimes!

My guess is that those hoarders will see any down environment as a buying opportunity.

Depends on how old they are and what their health is. Their heirs may not do the same hoarding (one can only hoard for so long....)
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
If the price goes up you can always get a lower grade example. No one can hold onto their hoard forever anyway.
I guess it is the appeal of having something "uncommon."
One of each is enough - and will keep me busy for a lifetime.

I guess I'm a different critter when it comes to hoarding..... I collect condition, any coin as long as its MS and no slabs.
I don't care if a coin is rare low mintage or scarce sure its nice if the price is right. But quality is always quality and at the moment quality is less expensive than rare.
For example
its like a sickness

The challenge.........one of the main reasons that I switched from collecting Washington quarters, Franklin halves, Peace dollars, etc., to collecting Barber quarters and halves.
