Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

So I just got a call from my old man.

He was a dealer in the 80's and stopped in about '90. He used to run adds for both buying and selling in SCD and Tuff Stuff. He got a call tonight from someone asking him if he would like to buy his collection. He hasn't run an ad since 1987.

My dad said he no longer did that and hung up. Then he remembered that I still am into it and called me with the guys name and # so I'll see if it goes anywhere.

I can't believe this guy called off an ad from 1987!

I'm hoping that since the magazine has been around since 87 maybe the cards will be too.

Hey maybe the cards are pre-1987. Hopefully he had them sitting there with the ad since it came out. That would eliminate late 80s Donruss and Topps from the "buy" which is what 90% of what people have out there hiding away in their dormant collections.

    True that.

My future father in law(T-minus 18 days) has all his cards stowed away in his mothers basement still. He told me that if she'd ever let me down there to look, they're mine! After the wedding I am going to pay grandma a little visit.

just celebrated the 1st Annivarsary of my 39th birthday...lol

It's cool when people pop up from the past with collections..

That huge sub that I listed last week was 90% from a customer I had back in the late 80's and early 90's. He'd been sitting on it and was looking to sell off...but none of the card stores left in my area wanted that much basketball.
Glad I bumped into this guy at supper...it had been almost 12 years since I had seen him.

Now if I can only find the guy that I sold all my early Bowman football and 1911 Mecca Double folder set.....

Nope...Class of '78 but it was Oakland (CA) Public School (worst...school...district...ever!) so I had to spend the rest of my life learning on my own that which I should have been taught in school.

Stingray, for my money that's the post of the year. I was feeling pretty old, but those pictures of those 75's and 76's all of a sudden made me glad to be born in 1965 (class of '83).

Of course, while the kids on these boards missed out on opening those cards, they also missed out on Velveeta cheese boxes and coffee cans as baseball card storage methods image!
