Check out the beating my friend took on ebay.

It's a low dollar coin but damn! Top pics are mine and that is exactly what the coin looks like in hand. The bottom pic is the auction pic. The coin has also been housed in a sticky pvc flip for some time.

The one in the e-bay pic looks pretty beat up too.

Too bad about the color and PVC in hand.....

So did you pay more for shipping than the coin itself?

Is that the largest coin your friend has ever passed? image

He paid $40 for the coin.

OUCH! I sold a similar 1866 and 1869 Indian cents at $4 each a couple months ago.

EDIT: I see there is a 7 day return policy, if it's still in that period, I suggest your friend return it!

If anything, his pics were probably too good, too much focus on the porosity and not enough on the EF details.

He only lost $10 plus the fees, probably hurts a little but I don't know if I'd call that a "beating." Maybe "spanking" would be more appropriate. image

  • It will augment the junk box!
  • I bought from that seller once and had to return the coin. Quite liberal in his grading standards and description. I see he's moved the picture of his grandkids to the About Me page. I've learned unrelated pictures on the coin auction page are a warning sign too. . .

It looked like POS in the eBay photo, too. Just not as much of a POS. You gotta help your friend, Jason. Most of us have done stuff like that, whether we want to admit it here or not. Well maybe some haven't, but I have. Help the guy bypass this learning phase.
