Just bought this on EBay

"This is a WW II coin collection with the certificate of authenticity from the American Historic Society (see pictures). These are the genuine United States coinage! There are four silver nickels from 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945; one steel cent from 1943; and 3 shell case cents from 1944, 1945, and 1946. There is a minimal shipping and handling fee, and a return policy (look below), so the satisfaction is guaranteed! Perfect for coin or WW II collectors."

Im trying to attach a picture.
Anyone know anything about this set ?

most of these type of sets that i have seen contain badly cleaned or polished coins. im sure that some don't but 95% of the ones ive seen do. i have never seen that paticular set it might be legit but it is something to watch out for.
  • As mentioned, most of these sets contain junk image

most likely a "put-together" set of average circulated coins with no huge value. The set should not have cost much is my guess.

I've got to agree--how much did you pay?

  • I havent recieved the set yet but should have it in a few days. I'll try to get a good picture of it . The guy I bought it from said it was still sealed in original package. For the price I paid I think its a cool set anyway. As a new collector I will probably get stung a few times but I collect things that appeal to me and not the grade,
Thanks for the heads up on the cleaned coins.
Thats what I really like about this forum. Somebody has already made the mistakes and if you will listen you wont get hurt too bad.
    Thanks .
BTW I paid $7.52 plus postage from Utah to Calif.

There is nothing "original" about that packaging but you didn't do too bad for the price.

  • There are a lot of these "theme" sets around.

The coins are just average coins and stuck in a holder.

But for $7.50 you can't lose too much. Just don't expect to find any $500 coins in there.
