My feeling is that they'll still have a pretty good season-- 9-2, or something like that-- and go on to a decent bowl game. I became a huge Charlie Weis fan after he ran that play for the kid with cancer last year, so I'm hoping for his sake that last year wasn't a fluke and they go on to have a solid 2006 campaign.

I like Weis. That's about all I have to say about that.

I heard today that Willingham and Weis had identical records at this point in their careers at ND.

I have to wonder, though, if Charlie sees the same troubles through this year that Ty did, will ND be as willing to fire him?

ND came in horribly overrated, and were exposed by the first good team they played. I suspect they'll end up in the top 25 this year, but I don't see them in BCS game.

I love ND, but they are definately overrated this year, and for certain, Weis is very overrated. They talk about this guy like he is the second coming of Knute Rockne. Can he please win something before he is annointed ANYTHING. Can he at least win a game against a big time team first ?

No, because they gave him that huge deal. But if he goes 13-15 over the next two years, a la Willingham, there is going to be hell to pay in South Bend.

I know a couple of the Notre Dame players. They are really nice guys, you might want to give them and their coach a break. They are doing their best. Personally, I'm a Buckeye fan.

ND was obviously overrated and some of you act like its their fault (jealousy no doubt). The future bolds well at ND under Weis the same couldn't be said of Ty. I've had the pleasure of meeting all the head coaches since Ara and all of them were and are class guys, Ty and Charlie included. Charlie has had only one real recruiting class under his belt and you folks are doubting him, translated means you know that eventually they will be ranked in the top ten again year in and year out. His recruiting has been and continues to be remarkable.

I personally don't care if you want to bash the pollsters, bash ND etc. have at it. I know the institution well haveing been tied to it since the early 70's and its a class act. All of your whining otherwise is as I said jealousy.

is it true that ESPN is going to start yet ANOTHER channel and dedicate it solely to kissing Weiss and company's asses 24/7?

Is every game being televised on NDBC not enough?

And why exactly is that ND's fault? Whether you hate ND, love it or don't care the fact remains they are still the most popular college football team. Send your rants to NBC and/or Espn.

    Any more sour grapes?

    IM-

It's not 'jealousy' as you so eloquently stated.

It's digust with a system that allows a team like ND to get ranked as high as they were without having beaten a quality opponent last year, and walking through a couple gimme games this year. They got exposed and I, for one, couldn't be happier.

As far as Ty goes, how can you sit there and say the future didn't look good under Ty? He was fired mid-contract, something that had never happened before at ND, and its apparent it was either racially motivated or he wasn't given the benefit of the doubt because he wasn't an alum.

And you say Weis has only had one recruiting class, and that they will be ranked in the top 10 again...huh? You're pinning your hopes on the recruiting ability of a former NFL coordinator?

Ziggy, its difficult to know sometimes on a board how something was meant. Not to worry I am chuckling too. I wasn't dropping a dime on anyone, its the same refrain I've heard since the 50's. image I did my undergrad work roughly 120 miles from ND and found it amazing how much they were hated and that was back in the late 60's. I find it all comical. If I upset ya, I am sorry. (popespeak)
  • Hi all

Yes, the media hype involving ND this year was quite "out of control"
How do paid professionals, who are supposed to be more edcucated on such things, spout such nonsense ! Lee Corso saying ND has the best offense in college football !! Come on now, in which game did he see that ??

And i believe, at some point, the players and the coaches started to read and believe there own press clippings. Thats a no-no

All is not lost though,, if ND could somehow win the rest of there games ??

In my opinion, ND has 2 more losses coming. Every coach in america now knows that if you can put good pressure on Brady Quinn your chances of beating them (ND) just got real good. If Brady is allowed to sit in the pocket and check off his recievers,,, could be a long day for ND opponents.

In my opinion also, Troy Smith is the better QB and Jim Tressel is a better coach !

But i believe, ND`s future is brighter with CW.

    Lee

    Mike,

You seem like you are well versed in this defense. I wonder if you have ever uttered these words before image

I don't think it's a question of fault, but to non fans it does get annoying. One of my buddies growing up was a ND fan because his old man played there. They were fanatical about it. I thought it was cool because the family was actually part of the history. Somewhere along the way I grew annoyed with the National love that is had for that program. It's a small-ish school and has a huge following because its "Irish" and because its "Catholic." I think that is what irks some people as well as that some "fans" have no knowledge of the history of the football program but since they are Catholic or Irish they root for them.

I wonder if any of the guys on the team are Irish.

Axtell things are what they are. One of my coworkers got to know Ty very well and I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with him, he is one great guy. We did some things for Charlie too. The difference is that Charlie understands and buys into the ND way of doing things, be it right or wrong. The university had a decision to be made, either to be able to compete with top echelon teams as they did in the past or not. Ty was not able to recruit the athletes necessary in the numbers necessary to do that and also made some of the powers to be uncomfortable. Now under Charlie they have recruited very well and whether anyone likes it or not having super bowl rings on your fingers does get you an invitation into someone's house. Today that is just the way it is as many of these recruits see themselves as playing eventually on Sundays. As an added bonus Charlie comes off as sincere to the parents just as Ty did. The plain fact is for whatever reason more kids are listening to the ND sells speel ergo more will eventually play there.

We may not like it but that's just the way of things now. I have to tell you Bob Davie got more of a royal screwing then Ty did. He and his wife are two of the most geniune and likeable folks I have ever met.

I still think ND is a well coached team that basically was embarrassed by M in part due to the game last year. ND has not scheduled weak opposition... and deserve alittle respect for playing Michigan, MSU, UCLA, USC, Tennessee and even Penn State in the same season.

    The season has hardly started...

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

LOVE to see Holtz back! He is NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL. It will never happen though, ND will be fine, losing to a team like Michigan hardly makes them a bad team.
