I've been tired of Braves fans ignoring 1994 and claiming a zillion straight division championships. At least now it's officially broken and no one need quibble over '94 ever again. image

Congrats to the Mets. I do hope you get stung in game 7 of the worlds series though..........

    Congrats to the Mets.

Good for them, good for Willie, and good for the fans.

Now, if they end up meeting the Yankees in the W.S.....all bets are off !

Why? Which team did win the 94 division?

  • AxtellAxtell Posts: 10,037 ✭✭
I'll answer the question for you, ziggy.

Since no team won the 94 division, then the Braves rightfully can lay claim to 14 straight division titles.

In the strike year of 94 Montreal was in first place when the season was shut down.

come on axtell no congrats? braves run is done!

bet the marlins tomorow mets are drinking like fish tonite! lol

It's tough to give congrats to a team that (a) should win the division with the disparity in payroll and talent over the other teams in the division and (b) the fact it took them so long to finally clinch.

They will likely get to the world series, but the best NL team doesn't hold a candle to any one of the best 3 or 4 best AL teams.
  • You're kidding right Axtell? The Spos had the best team in the major leagues, were 6 up on the Braves when the strike happened and were gaining, there was no race. I agree 100% with Ziggy on this one, the Braves streak starts in 95 and ends in 05, PERIOD!

By the way, congrats to the Mets, I too am happy it's anyone other than Atlanta, hopefully it will be the 1980's all over again for the Braves from this year on...

Impossible for him to congratulate any team, player, fan, or anything else having to do with NY. This is where he shows his blind hatred for everything and anything having to do with the state of NY....a place which, by the way, he has never been to.

It's not blind hatred, its called seeing without the rose colored spectacles you yankee fans live behind.

Its called you have all this anger and hatred for a place you know ZERO about and have never seen in person. Therefor nothing you say has any vailidity, you cannot form an opinion having never been here, and you show your true ignorance.

BTW, NY was just named the safest city in America....again.

Though Ax will find a way to explain to us how those numbers were skewed or falsified by the big bad media machine.

You're going to say that in order to talk about sports in another city you've had to have visited there? hahahaha JOKE.

<< <i>BTW, NY was just named the safest city in America....again. >>

Let me guess...in percentages, no? With 8 million people of course percentages are going to look low.

<< <i>Though Ax will find a way to explain to us how those numbers were skewed or falsified by the big bad media machine. >>

Of course they're skewed...the 'big bad media' wants its home to seem safe. How tough is it to spin numbers, anyways? You think that Torre's a good manager, because he has 1000 wins with the yankees.

    (b) the fact it took them so long to finally clinch.

they doged it! so much sweeter to do it at home. 86 mets got swept by philly before they clinched also!
  • kuhlmannkuhlmann Posts: 3,326 ✭✭
braves payroll is pretty high also. so that payroll thing doesnt fly here!

No fool, I say that in order to bash ALL things about a place you must visit there...and YOU bash all things NY. This has nothing to do with the Yankees....it has to do with you calling the city, the state, the people, and anything else you can trash and garbage.

And just as I so easily predicted, you would find a way to skew and spin doctor the facts.

    Ax,

That's an ignorant statement. You've never been to NY before so how can you possibly condemn it? You sound more and more cynical every day. Where is all that bitterness coming from? Maybe you need to get yourself a girl or boyfriend to ease some of that frustration. image

Come on now, the rat problem in NY is a well known issue. Letterman, who has done his late night show from NY, makes light of it constantly.

Bitter? Nah, I just find it irritating when people want to congratulate 'willie' for doing a job anyone with a pulse could do.

M's had the best record in baseball history a few years back and they couldn't get out of the first round. Go figure. image

Coming from Detroit I feel completely safe anywhere. And that's not me being a bad ass-- I'm well aware of my physical limitations. But when you've walked the Cass Corridor there isn't much left in the continental US that can terrify you.

NY's a big city (duh), and while I'm sure there are crappy sections I staggered through Harlem dead drunk when I went to the Big Apple on spring break as a senior in high school, and I don't recall ever feeling menaced. And the rest of Manhattan, at least, was a total blast-- and from what I could tell was quite safe. The Bronx or Brooklyn or wherever may be a different story, but at least the section of NY I was in was fantastic in every way.

BTW, here's a great Detroit story.

About 15 years ago my buddy took a girl to a club in Detroit. On the way back they got T-Boned by another car somewhere on Gratiot, and their car spun off next to the sidewalk. As they were trying to collect their bearings a guy peeked in through the broken window, said he saw the whole thing and asked if they were OK.

" I think we're fine," my buddy said. "Just a little shaken up is all".
"Good," said the guy. He then proceded to produce a handgun from his jacket. "Now give me your wallet and the b*tch's purse." image

the fact it took them so long to finally clinch.

The fact is that the Mets are the first team to clinch 3 games is 'so long'?

how long has it been since the Mariners clinched anything? 5, 6 years?

    lol

    Good for you.

Yeah it was 5 yrs since the M's won the division with the best record Steve.....then they proceded to get their A$$es handed to them by the Yankees in the playoffs !!!!!!

Back on topic....great season for the Mets. Hopefully having it wrapped up so early wont take away their edge. If Pedro & Glavine can go into the playoffs healthy they can and should breeze through the N.L.

Now all you Met fans will get to see what a great pitcher El Duque is in the big games...look for him to come up huge.

Looks like WP decided to crawl out of the toliet to make his obligatory appearance...back in the water, troll!

As far as the Mariners, so what? They've had some down years, it sure as hell isn't the streak of many other teams who haven't sniffed the playoffs in over a decade (i.e. the Phils). And if you are trying to say you're a 'better' fan because you ride a bandwagon, well, keep smoking whatever you're smoking.

    Typical childish reply from Axtell.

I can just see you, eyes bulging, veins popping out from the neck screaming at the basement wall as you replied to WP.

But if that image of me gets you through your day, so be it.

When did this become about Joe Torre?
  • << Bitter? Nah, I just find it irritating when people want to congratulate 'willie' for doing a job anyone with a pulse could do. >>

Actually, Willie did a great job and it was not a foregone conclusion that the Mets would win. The pitching staff is old but Willie got real veterans like Glavine and El Duque to perform like when they were younger. He also got the hitters, including the reserves, to perform up to their potential as well. Give credit when it's due - Ax.
