Wow – great results on both coins. The rouble is quite a success story – I hope you post some good pics. I would agree that you have a $2,000 coin at the least, probably 30+% more. I do not get a sense that the Russian market is cooling as of yet. If I were in your shoes, I would sell it and use the proceeds to reinforce my core collection in the next year, particularly if the market cools and prices are soft. Brent
Agreed on the selling part, but not on cheapbay. There's nothing more satisfying than selling a $75 purchase for 20 or 30x, I've done it about 15-20 times a couple of years ago to raise funds for my new office. I would consign it to NEN though.
Great results !!!! I hope I'm that fortunate with my Salzburg taler. Talked to Chris today at NCS and it has been evaluated and is a excellent candidate for NGC grading. Fingers crossed.
I'd say - keep it. It's a great coin. I believe that the amount of disposable income in Russia will only increase in the next 5-10 years, so the market will get stronger, before it gets weaker, IMO.
It is interesting to hear perspectives from the US coin forum also. If you think you might regret it, perhaps you should put it away for 6 months and rethink it later.
I have one solitary moon money story, and it also involves a Russian rouble. I picked up an 1881 rouble at the CICF show in Chicago back in the late 1990s. I found it in a 2x2 in a dealers case, marked at $40. It was obviously cleaned, but I knew the date was a scarce date, so I picked it up. At the time, $40 was not too far out of Krause range. I put it away until last year. It was a nice AU/UNC example, but everytime I looked at it I saw the cleaning. The unnaturally bright surfaces were overpowering all other positive attributes of the coin. I let it fly on eBay with no reserve thinking I would pull $200 out of it. It sold for $860. It just didn't feel right, but the buyer was very pleased. I couldnt be happier with the roubles I bought to replace it.

<< <i>It will be interesting to see what they were able to do for that green spot on the second one. >>
No doubt. I was almost certain there would be residual damage because of it, and that would be enough for NGC to bodybag it...
