There is usually a gathering in Baltimore to meet & greet members and go out for some lunch. Once you've done it a few times you start to remember the faces.

Remembering everyones names depends on how good you are at that sort of thing since there's forum handles and real names to keep track of. I'm lousy with names but I think I've got the Baltimore regulars remembered. image

There's been suggestions of badges, shirts, etc... but nothing has caught on. So for now it's meet for lunch. Keep an eye on the forum afew days before the show. Someone will decide the time & place.

I do carry a rubber chicken at some shows!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

What has happened here previously, "convention", is that someone will announce a show, here in the forums, they are going to attend and ask if others are going. Then by a process of pm or forum thread, the interested folk make a time and place to get together for lunch or dinner or something. Then the guys that meet there are pcgs forum members. Some folk write their names on their badges but unless you're up close, and recognize the name, it's hard to tell who's a member and who isn't.

There is a secret handshake but it's one of those...if you know, you can't say and if you say, you don't know types of thingies. Good luck!

Mainly, I can be easily identified, because

I am mean, nasty and highly irritable. Also

I wear a hat that says bear on it.

I'm easily identified. I'm 6'7". The only other person I might be confused with (at first sight) would be Xbob. I wear glasses. He doesn't.
A few years ago, PCGS gave out pins that some of us still wear.

I've asked that PCGS have a roll of labels similar to the "Hello my name is" stickers at their table and they have refused. I even provided a copy of a label in Avery label format. All they had to do was buy the labels and print them. Carol said that it would take too much time away from the people working the tables. I don't get it. I have made my own and were them.

I met a few members at last year's March Baltimore show. We met at the PCGS table at a certain time. When I introduced myself by my screen name, someone from the PCGS table came running over and said, "who is Longacre?? I want to meet you." Ah.... another member of my fan club. image

  • Usually a forum member has a table at most shows and will act as a "coordinator". JBSteven has graciously done this at a couple of the Houston area shows. Setting up a time to meet before the show and then meeting at the agreed place is a good idea. ER has stood me up everytime. image

Wait..... I do remember meeting one forum member once. I think I met Legend once at a big show somewhere, and she told me to get the hell away from her table or she would call security image

As I recall, there was talk back in 2002/2003 of having a Collectors Universe badge with our username and icon displayed on it. I can't remember if PCGS or if a formun member was offereing to do it.

    Maybe carolj can chime in.

the only reason I could think of why PCGS wouldn't want to do that is maybe they dont want to seem like they have a bunch of crazy people out there acting as some sort of agent for PCGS. know what Im driving at ?

    eh, we'll see.

LOL IGWT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very true for some.

Actually I think it was Coppercoin Chuck that was making up name badges for interested members. There for a while people had PINS that were given out by PCGS.
