MS 70 or MS 69 "1st Strike" US Gold Eagle?

Which is a better "investment"- an MS 70 reg. strike, or an MS 69 "First Strike" US Gold Eagle coin (slabbed either by NGC or PCGS, with the same date)? Does a first strike designation pretty much guarantee you a better/sharper strike, because it was struck in the first month with hopefully newer dies, etc.?
Thanks.

Please do yourself a favor, and do a search on First Strike on this forum.

Here is just one thread on the topic.
  • The MS70 IMO. First strike means that it was submitted to PCGS before a certain date. It has nothing to do about the quality of the coin.

Thanks for the thread link, er. Actually I had tried doing a "first strike" search before asking my questions, but got no results. I probably did the search incorrectly!? I did wonder what all the F.S. huff was about, and that thread, along with the Mint article link there, answered my questions, so I thank you.

Thanks to you also, clackamas! image

Don't bother with the First Strike coins, neither the U.S. Mint, or the TPG's know when the coin was struck. The Mint addmitted that the date on the box of SAE'S doesn't reflect when it was struck. It reflects when it was inspected and shipped. So your paying for marketing fluff, that has no merit. People still pay a premium for the FS SAE's, it baffles me.
