Antagonism is closely woven into the social fabric of the hobby when you have a very complex grading system with big price jumps between many of the grades.

Only in this forum. I haven't noted any antagonism at the other online coin communities. Perhaps also with the dealer-customer relationship, if the customer isn't self-controlled enough to simply walk away when the dealer's quote offends them. Perhaps also with the TPG system, if someone else's opinion of your coin's grade matters so much to you. If the money is that important, you belong in a more objective form of investing.
Antagonism is a manufactured emotion, a process which is only self-sustaining if both parties involved actively encourage it.
