Hey guys, quick question! [!semi-large photos!]

Hi everyone, I'm visiting from the U.S. Coin Forum, and just wanted to ask a quick question.

I know it's not a good coin or anything, but I just wanted to ask how to tell the date on it and the denomination on coins like this.

  • The first side says 5 yen, the second side is upside down and indicates it was minted in the 50th year (1975) of the emperor's reign (Hirohito 1926-89).

You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
