What would 1 each of 2006 mint products cost??

Never before has my 'handle' seemed more appropriate!!

With latest release of uncirculated Gold/Silver/Platinum coins and recent 20th Anniversary sets has anyone calculated what the total would be for one of each of the 2006 mint products??

Personally I can't wait til 2008 for a chance to buy the trimetalic(Gold/Silver/Platinum), reverse proof, lettered edge, english-metric, American Eagle 8 coin set. I am saving my money so I can get a set from each of the new mint faclilities in Carson City/Charlotte/Dahlonega/New Orleans/San Francisco/etc.

I think the mint has a real winning idea with their mobile modular mint facility. Only 10 weeks of operations in each city!! The cities love it, the mint loves it, the congressional reps love it, I don't know why the collectors aren't more excited!

I understand for 2009 they are teaming up with Dell to start a build/mint your own program. You specify which of the 8 mint marks(RPMs $15.00 extra), which or how many of the 9 metals to use(I like the aluminum-copper-zinc-rhodium combination!), size(english or metric), finish(business-proof-matte-reverse proof-burnished), with or without edge lettering, and optional laser hologram.

For Christmas catalog they will have same coins with option of 25 different VAMs!! It's nicknamed the 'Gouge One for Me!' option.

  • This was a good post. Not sure how it got missed first time around.

For this year, I think one could spend well over $10K on the mint offerings. More if one includes the bags and rolls of SHQ and the platinum, gold bullion and proof coins. Maybe $25K for the whole year? I have not sat down and figured it all up, but that would be my guess.

Value of those same items bought this year, next year? Hard to say.

I have been a collector for over mumbly-five years. I learn something new every day.
  • I did a quick calculation and it was around $15,000 if you get 1 of everything (not including rolls, bags and stuff like that).

If you put all of the 2006 coins into one multi-coin holder, it would cover a pretty good chunk of wall space. Could you imagine what the grading fees would cost for such a monster? Probably close to what all the coins cost image.
  • Just wait til next year with addition of presidents and wives.
All joking aside I expect the mint to ride the reverse proof and uncirculated bullion coins into the ground.
Lets not forget the reverse proof buffalo.

Want to bet how long it will be before you see a herd of them thundering your way??

2005 will mark the turning point. Its all down hill from here!

2manycoins2fewfunds, I hear ya.. I *hear* ya. I said a year ago if the mint ever went the way of the Canadian mint I'd pretty much stop collecting. It's September and I have *yet* to order my 2006 silver proof set, an annual ritual. Why do it now? I'll finish my collection when they do the "Complete ten year set!" run sometime in 2010.

A complete, 2007 set will be a huge, expensive collection in it's own right. Sure, we'll see numerous sub-5000 mintage coins, but who's going to care?

I think my enjoyment of coins will steer very quickly to metal detector finds only.

  • When you consider available denominations, compositions, finishes, mints, etc. the total number of possible permutations gets out of control. I believe we have crossed a critical point.

If not, we are getting close.

  • Maybe it's time to go back and just do the raw coins in the album. Common everyday coins like I get in my change at the store. Between the mint's mass marketing of massive amounts of coins, and pcgs and their slabbing fees, who has anything left to spend on a coin? Then no worries like "did I get my order in in time" or "will they break this set up and sell these separately" and let's not forget "I need just 1 more
$2k+ coin to tie for 8th with my regestry set"...........image

When I collected stamps, I drew the line at 1948. A jillion "re-elect Truman" issues. Junk afterwards.

It's VERY expensive, which is why some of us buy extra, to hopefully sell for a profit, to offset the cost.

Some board members think this in not 'right', but its just so darn expensive that you have to offset the cost somehow.
