Officially hit number one !!

On the Thurman Munson master set registry

Ok, I know its not the biggest set, but it still feels nice to be # 1 in something !

Don't sell it short. We're not talking about Joe Lovito here. Munson is a guy who was beloved during his career by a lot of people and deeply respected even by people who didn't like him much.

You'd get along famously with my cousin, Bri. He's a Thurman-o-phile of the first order, but he lives in Elkton, MD, right in the heart of Birds Country image

Yeah, don't sell yourself short. It's still very hard to do sometimes even on small sets. The sets I'm working on are 23 card sets and some of them are very high competition. The 1978 BK Tigers set I had was so fierce that the 5 people in front of were so dedicated to battling out for #1, that I realized I had no chance. So #1 is good no matter how you look at it.

    Thanks everyone !

I have around a dozen more ready to send in for grading, 3 of which are not part of the set yet, and another 2 or 3 that I own and am waiting for them to add to the set, so once all of them are graded and or entered it should bump me up around 80% complete. I would really like to hit the 85% necessary for the award by next year.

I have had a tough time trying to locate a few of the discs in the set, as well as some of the OPC cards. The 73 OPC in particular is impossible to find. The only 2 I have even seen so far arent worth grading.

    Brian,
Congratulations! When are you going to add the real Munson card (1971 Topps Greatest Moments)? image There are only 5 PSA 7's with zero higher. All the PSA 7's are all tied up in the 1971 Topps GM sets. The last PSA 7 sold for $2000. Will you wait to find a PSA 7 or will you be looking for a PSA 6?

    Great job.

Been looking for one for quite some time. I dont mind a PSA 5 if I can get one, but there isnt much out there. The only few Ive seen in the past year would be lucky to get a 3.

    Brian,
I have seen a few available privately, but they never go on Ebay. You might want to contact Steve Eberhardt as he is the king of GMs. He might have one floating around. I have a PSA 8oc left from my original set. I sold my PSa 7 to a guy for $2000 and then had two guys tell me that they would have paid $2500 for one. The last PSA 6 sold for $450.

Just a little update on the 71 Greatest Moments....

Since I dont have $2,000 in disposable income laying around for a PSA 7 should one turn up, I finally picked up what was to me the next best thing ( and the REAL Munson card Shane image )

I can certainly live with this one. The color is great, edges and corners are outstanding ( the scratching and white is on the holder not the card )

Good job Brian, it looks more just O/C than M/C to me.
I've been looking for the Yaz '71 GM , not as pricey as the Munson but high enough for 1 card out of 165 in the Master.

    Congrats,

I have that Mastro page on my computer screen so I can drool over it every few minutes...it is SWEEEEEEEET.

I've never bid on anything at Mastro but I think I'll take a run at the signed 79 topps they have. That 71 PSA 9 is way out of my league. I can see that cards easily going for $5-6K.
