Regarding a downturn in the market: have forum EBay sellers noticed a downturn in their Ebay sales?

Either in volume or price?

Since many coins are bought and sold on EBay (dealer to collector; or collector to collector) the issue of whether a bear market is coming or is here should take into account what is happening with EBay sales.

Any of you EBayer's have any thoughts/comments on this?

  • No.

I 've sold more $3-5k coins this year than the previous years combined. People who drop $5k on a coin are really not going to worry about paying $1 more per gallon for gas.

A couple of buddies who sell on ebay have done even better than me and one actually retired 7yrs early to do more ebay sales.

When the mint sells out the way they do it says the money/credit is there. I think many are in a funk due to the drop in gold, which is temporary I feel.

Yes but we're real new. However the activity when we started a couple months ago was exciting. It's now "ok".

  • Both - ebay real slow volume and what sells is small ticket stuff. Store traffic is 50% of last year. I think people are broke.

Slow show sales - some super buying opportunities but when raw collector coins and paper outsell nice slabs its bear time. Only saving grace during this period is the fun of taking 100% profit from raw collector material in the $10 to $50 range and buying nice slabs at cheaper prices (just fun and games). A lot of the people coming to shows don't have any money and many of those that do have been really burned on overgraded slabs they bought from some of the big ticket dealers - I mean these guys paid $5,000 to $15,000 for coins that I would not even buy if they were priced a grade lower, the coins are so grossly overgraded or low end. And once these guys get burned you don't see them again. Sorta like when Morgans in 65 crashed from $1000 bid to $100 (I know of one well known big ticket dealer who only let his assistants set up at shows - he was simply too ashamed to be seen, and everybody on the bourse knew too). People had mortgaged their homes, then had default, bankruptcy, and divorce. MS 70 modern coins are a rip off too - I would not give more than a 10% premium for them, especially the proofs. And then what if they go bad in the holder in a coupla years in the bank box - are they still MS 70 LOL. You know these holders aren't air tite don't you?

  • I had a nice War Nickel set do well last week, better than I expected.
