Coin shops in Havelock, Cherry Point, or Jacksonville, NC.

Well, I was supposed to go home to Japan tomorrow but Uncle Sam has seen fit to request my services in North Carolina all next week. Anyone know of any coin related stops in any of the listed towns in the subject line.

P.S. I saved a ton of your tax dollars this week.

That's the only one listed for the 3 towns in the CDN 2006 dealer directory. Never heard of them. I do know of a good one in Mooresville though. A bit of a distance from where you are.

  • Thanks Jerry,

I'm driving from Beaufort SC to Cherry Point tomorrow and have no idea what towns I'll be passing through but if I see a sign that says Mooresville, I'll look it up.

Coming up the coast you'll pass thru Wilmington and Morehead City. I left the Marines almost 30 years ago from Cherry Point. There was a pawn shop just outside the gate at the time.

  • used to run one around there - lots of good buying deals coming in - profit from the buying part of the biz outperformed the selling part
  • Toms Coins and Antiques in downtown New Bern, about 15-20 minutes from Cherry Point, Havelock. I would imagine you'll pass through New Bern on either US 70, or Hwy 17 going to Cherry Point. There's also local pawn shops you could check out. If you want directions, let me know.

I grew up in Jacksonville, spent ages 3 to 16 there (1966-1979). RONCOR hobby shop in the New River Shopping Center was where I bought my Blue Whitmans and the owner had a small case of coins, most of which were out of my price range. RONCOR closed in 2002, and I know this, because when I got back into collecting in 2003, I called the Chamber of Commerce to see if they were still in business--and that's the bad news I received. I don't know about the other place mentioned.

Being a Marine Corps town, there are Pawn Shops on every corner (more in J'ville than Havelock). Bought my first electric guitar and amp for $30.00 at one of them on Marine Blvd.

Learn how to fish and surf and dodge mosquitoes and you'll love it there!

Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.
  • If you visit Tom's coins, you can walk down a few stores and visit the original location where Pepsi-Cola was invented. Now a gift shop.
