PSA Submission Question

I have around 2,100 cards to send in to PSA. Over one-half of them are from one set. Would all of the cards be allocated to one grader or to several graders? Do you think it is better to break the submission down into 200 card lots to lessen the possibility of a grader having a bad day? Does it really matter?

Personally I think smaller lots are better. I would however not think that one grader would be assigned to to 1000+ cards.

    David - good question.

On one hand, it may make sense to break the submission into two - one for the one set, and one for everything else.

As to the other question, very tough.
I think you have equal chances of "Grader of Light" and "Grader of Death" [presuming such people actually exist]. If you do it all in one shot - you'll either come out far ahead, or potentially worse than expected.

If you break it up into a few submissions - you'll likely come down the middle.

All that said, when I'm submitting a lot of the same card [as opposed to the same set], I find having multiple copies of a single card in a submission help increase the chances of a 10. For example, if I have ten MINT quality 1976 Topps Mike Schmidt cards, if I submit them all at once, the odds are generally pretty good that I'll come out something like 2 PSA 8s, 7 PSA 9s and one PSA 10.

And that, for me, is a huge bonus....

    Hi David,

    I would suggest the following:

    1) Contact Jim (Davalillo), he recently submitted multiple sets/orders and would be a good source for advice... check his PSA Registry Thread.

    2) Contact Joe Orlando directly by telephone and don't be afraid to ask for all options including a discount... he's very flexible and fair.

    Best of luck!

i've sent in a couple of 1000 plus submissions and they were both broken down into smaller subs once they got into PSA. i was emailed the new submission numbers from PSA once it was separated. i've started breaking my subs into 100 card lots. makes it easier on me as well (or it seems that way).

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

Joe has always said he's willing to work with people on large submissions. I contacted him a few months ago and found him very responsive (he got back to me in 5 minutes late on a Friday nite) and very helpful.
