Trivia: Name one Yankee pitcher worth their weight in salt who's under the age of 40?
It's a trick question. There isn't one!
Not to mention the fact that being a Yankee fan is a "Do Not Pass 'Go' Go Straight To Hell" card when you die. God doesn't like gluttons.
Arthur
Edited to add: Yanks are up 3 games to 0. Yankees are king. Oh, wait a second ....
2nd Trivia: Anyone know what the worst choke in sports history was? Yeah, that's what I thought. Deal with it.
I am by no means rubbing anything in on the Sox fans, but to rip the Yankees farm system is a joke. They have talent from the farm that is producing now, and a few more in the works. Until the Boston minor leaguers come up to the bigs and produce it is just speculation.
Oh, I guess you tricked yourself with the under 40 pitcher question. I suppose Wang is nothing, right ?
I thought you had a little more class Xanadu...I was apparently wrong.
-- Yogi Berra
That was actually kind of a dumb thing to say if you consider yourself knowledgable about baseball. But, if you arent knowledgable, then I suppose you have an excuse of ignorance.
Is such hyperbole necessary? You guys like to dish it, but apparently have trouble getting it back in return.

What do we dish ?? Where are personal attacks and name calling ? You cant answer because there isnt any Grote, and you know it. Find one post where myself or any other yankee fan is throwing out the name calling like jerk o##.

Wow, way to win with class.
Typical of the pack of them that run on these boards, though.

That comment was FAR from typical. I for one do not agree with what was said one bit. There is a difference between saying it when its a fued going back and forth between guys you know and have had that relationship....its all in jest then, but to come out like that isnt right, and certainly not a classy way to act.....but once again Ax tried to make it seem like that is the norm instead of the exception.

Wang?
Steve
jerk off? c'mon now, was name calling really necessary?
No Yankee pitchers under age 40 worth their weight???
C Wang 17- 5
M Mussina 14 - 6
J Wright 10 - 7

On the brighter side - prediction: Pats 31 Jets 3

Varitek ???
I think it was generally assumed you were referring to RECENT minor league talent....BUT, if you want to play that game then just off the top of my head, aside from Cano, Wang, Cabrera, and Proctor, there is a few guys named Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, and Derek Jeter.

Just for the record, Varitek came to the Sox in one of the more infamous trades, where the Sox sent stiff closer Heathcliff Slocumb to the Mariners for minor leaguers Varitek and Derek Lowe. So not sure he'd be considered a product of the Sox system or not.
And I think the 31-3 score is conservative - Pats should break 40 by the third quarter against those stiffs....
<< <i>The Yankees have a minor leahue pitcher named Philip Hughes, for those of you who don't know already, who is VERY highly touted. They're expectign bug things from him in the next year or 2. Keep an eye out... >>
yes he is highly touted, but until a player does something on the major league level i dont put any stock in it. If I had a dollar for every prospect who didnt pan out I would be a very wealthy man.
This was one of the debates some of us Yankee fans had with Sox fans earlier this year. We kept hearing about the stellar minor league prospects of the Sox, and the depleted system of the Yanks. Until they do it in the show they are just a topic for conversation, nothing more.

You quickly got rid of Hanley Ramirez and Annibal Sanchez for overrated Josh Beckett, though. Varitek came from Seattle, as was mentioned. Nomar's gone and producing again. You guys did bring up Clemens, though
BTW, talking about buying players, isn't Boston #2 in payroll? How has that helped them this year?
The rest I stand by.
Arthur
Now as far as the guys not worth their salt, do you think the Red Sox would like the nearly 60 W's that these guys have?
I think the Yanks are primed to win yet another World Series this year. I don't see either of the teams in the Central or anyone from NL beating them, especially in a 5 or 7 game series. I have some mild questions about Johnson's big-game pitching ability but Mussina is a horse and will show up to win in the post. Their lineup hurts to just look at, letalone to face it. They'll win this year.
What the Sox are doing now is very reminiscent to me of what the Yanks did in the 90s. They're sticking with their prospects (well, except for Ramirez and Sanchez) and are willing to wait the growing pains of these guys out while they mature. They've stopped taking the "just win now and worry about the next few years in the next few years" approach and look like they're trying to load for a long-term victory; being continuous contenders for 5-6 years instead of shooting for the moon in one. That approach is what created the mini-dynasty the Yankees had in the mid- to late-90s. Oddly enough, it appears the Yankees are switching and going with the approach the Sox had back then: do anything and everything to win this year and damn with the future. Their age will soon catch up with them and although they're unique in the sense that they have the fiscal capacity to always be in contention, their minor league system is a shell of what it was 6 years ago. The Sox minor league system has been saturated with young strong arms through the draft in the past few years. This season, whether we want to accept it or not, has turned into a transition season for the Sox. Their lineup couldn't withstand the injuries the way the Yanks lineup could and the decision was made -- and rightly so, in my opinion -- to not mortgage the future for a run this season. Schilling, like Johnson, is on his way out and they got many of their young arms some much needed major league experience (even if the moves were made a bit early).
They've called up Pedroia and are easing him into his soon-to-be-permanent position in the middle infield. Nixon is probably not going to return and while I've heard speculation that the Sox will make a run at signing Sheffield (which I would thoroughly enjoy for a variety of reasons
If you ask me who I feel is more ready to win a championship in the immediate future I will undoubtedly say the dreaded Yankees. But if you ask me who I think is more ready to secure the spot atop the AL East for the forseeable future? I've got to go with the Sox.
You have to remember, the Sox aren't exactly a low-payroll team. They have the money as well and are willing to spend it properly.
