Jeter or Reyes?

This was the topic on Steve Sommers' show today. It relates to THIS YEAR only. Jeter has the higher batting average and more RBIs. Reyes has more HRs, runs scored, and stolen bases. Who would you choose - based on this year only.

Reyes actually has more HR's? Amazing.

I'd pick Reyes this season, or any season, over Jeter. Not to mention, Reyes absolutely smokes him in SB's. He also bats leadoff, which would stand to reason why Jeter has a couple more RBI's than him.

well there is no suprise. ctsox the uber Jeter hater would take Sponge Bob over Jeter "this season, or any season" also, having nearly 20 more rbi's is "a couple" to the prince of Yankee hating image

anyway, for those who wish to analyze without crap comments like ctsox's about the rbi's clouding judgment here are the REAL numbers.

Runs Scored Reyes 116 Jeter 104
    Hits Reyes 178 Jeter 194
    2B Reyes 28 Jeter 36
    3B Reyes 16 Jeter 3
    HR Reyes 19 Jeter 13
    RBI's Reyes 75 Jeter 92
    SB Reyes 57 Jeter 30
    AVG Reyes .299 Jeter .345
    OBP Reyes .350 Jeter .422
    SLG Reyes .496 Jeter .489

Jeter has Reyes in SIX of these 10 cats ...... Jerry, if you stand to call out Jeter for being SMOKED in stolen bases you should mention that Reyes is SMOKED by Jeter in batting average, On base percentage, and Base Hits. Also, for all of you so fixated on the "HR" total these guys have nearly identical slugging percentages.

Typical sore loser Red Sox fan. To my dismay, the Yankees have cleaned your team's clock this year. Be gracious.

I say Jeter. I would pick Rickey over both of them.

Tuff decision, I would say Jeter only because of his leadership and clutch playing.

Both are having great years. Jeter is having one of his finest, and Reyes is having a coming out party for the baseball world.

    Both great players.

Reyes has stalled out on triples lately, been at 16 for awhile now. Was hoping he would get to twenty in 3B's and HR's and be the first player since George Brett to get 20 or more doubles, triples, and Homers. Only six players have ever done it.

Reyes without a doubt...more power, more speed.

Jeter is having a great year at the plate, but his BA will return to career levels next year. He's never been a power threat, and put him on any lineup not laced with 40 HR guys behind him, and he'd struggle to hit .300.

    Reyes in a heartbeat.

Again, I am shocked. Never would have expected it from you.

His average would have to plummet to reach his career 315 average next year too.

All players return to their career numbers after a spike.

Jeter in a lineup where he was the only threat wouldn't see a pitch to hit, and, as I said before, would struggle to hit .300. Jeter's a midline defender as well.

Reyes would do well anywhere, either by walking and getting stolen bases, or getting the bat on the ball.

Of course it does to you.

Anything that is critical of anything yankees is funny to the blind and ignorant yankee 'fans'.

Talk of a salary cap and revenue sharing in baseball? Pure folly to the yankee fan! Jeter's not the best in the game? You call over laughing!

I am sorry you cannot take criticism - it's in the yankee fan's nature not to be able to digest anything that does anything that rides the jock of the yankees. They drink the koolaid that the NY media hands out 24/7, so of course they don't know any different.

    Reyes, please!

Ax, if you noticed I didnt even give an edge to Jeter over Reyes. I complimented both players. My point is that whatever you say has no merit or worth to anyone on here. We all know that no matter what you will bash or at the very least drastically downplay the talent or merit of anyone who wears the pinstripes.

And enough with the NY crap. You have never been to NY, you dont know anything about the city or the people, so frankly I have had about enough of the $hit you constantly thrown out bashing my town and people. i am through even trying to be civil with a complete and total jerk like you. There is NOBODY on these boards more critical of the yankees than I am. NOBODY. Except when its your backdoor pal Arod you whine like the spoiled little schoolgirl you are, otherwise you ignore all the criticism i dish out to other yankees. You and a few others are the reason alot of us are seriously considering leaving this place for good. There is no talking to you, no having a civil conversation or thought out discussion. It is you bashing everything and anything you can get your hands on, and I for one ( although it wouldnt be tough to find others ) that are just plain sick of what this place is becoming.

You make crap up, pass it off as fact. Nobody called Jeter the best in the game, but what does your pea brain come up with other than to use it in your rant, pass it off like it was said just to be the argumentative, ignorant little troll you are. You know damn well you come on just to stir the pot, just to pick fights. Your life is so miserable it must be your only source of pleasure.

Ax, you just dont get it....it has NOTHING to do with being critical of the Yankees. For christs sakes that is the furthest thing on my mind. I have no problem whatsoever with debate or criticism. It is when it comes to the point where there is just constant childish bashing no matter what the topic is. Not everything yankees is negative, not everything NY is negative. There is a point where it just is not amusing to come to a place where you expect to have a civil chat with people and all you hear night in and night out is not only your team, but your HOME being unfoundedly bashed.

You cannot help yourself it seems. You cant go one night without some personal attack or insult. It is uneccesary. I am responding to you in an attempt to inpart some sense of civility, not to continously turn every discussion into 10 pages of bickering. Bash the Yankees all you want, but I will not tolerate any more personal attacks, or attacks on the place I call home.

Yes, and this is what you manage to bring out of people. THE WORST. Days can go by without anyone having something that negative to say, and it certainly doesnt cross my mind to speak to anyone that way...until you come on here. You have a knack of bringing out the worst in people with your neverending attacks. How much do you expect someone to take of your attacks on them personally or the town they live in before they lash back ? Again, a reason why I have had it with these boards. I joined here to talk sports with people, not to have them bash the place I live. NOT the team I root for, I said and will say again, have your shots, no biggie, but my home is a different story and enough is enough. You are not proving anything other than you are flat out just not a nice person.

Being in New York and actually watching both play, I, for this season would pick Jeter. However, with that said and Jeter on the 2nd nine of his career I'd pick Jose for the duration. Statements that Jeter is a midline fielder, or that Reyes smokes him are ijust not correct.

Jeter for this year, Reyes for the future.

If I was to compare the 2 over the past 3 or 4 years I'd have to pick Jeter as well. Reyes was hurt his first 2 years and last yr as a leadoff hitter failed to walk. This is his coming out year and Mets fans are delighted.
