Kennedy with metal glob on lips
I have a ms-66 or ms67 1977 Kennedy that I was thinking of submitting to either Anacs or Pcgs. I really think it has a good shot at 67. But very clearly there is a metal glob Over the lips of kennedy. I can see some Copper(red) in the glob under my 10x loope. What kind of an error coin is this called? Does the glob on the lips take away value from the coin bringing it down to Ms-65 or does it inhance value and not affect the grade? Do you think it is worth submitting? Sorry my pictures suck, you wouldn't be able to discern the glob or the luster. any advice would be appreciated.

Without images, I'm guessing you're looking at either a die break or die chip.
Whether it adds or subtracts from the value and/or the grade depends on many things, but it usually detracts from the grade.
Finally, you have to decide it's worth submitting. Regardless of whether or not you submit it, if you like the coin, that's all that really counts.
There's a lot of copper debris in the minting process and it wouldn't be too difficult for some to get into a die.
and they're cold.

<< <i>The copper I see is in the blob itself. It could be from another coin, or could just be part of the "clad" mix that is the blob itself... no way to tell. Actually, it makes Kennedy look like he has a rather bad cold sore. The part that gets me is that the coin is really almost perfect in every other way, strike, luster and no other hits anywhere, even under the 10x loope. Thats why i was thinking of submitting. Do you guys think Anacs is the way to go, as they are usually more forgiving? >>
If it's from another coin there should be a faint seam all the way around it.
