NEED HELP! Coin collector looking for info on a Hank Aaron rookie card

Hello everyone. I am a coin guy only and need some expert opinions on a card that I have had for several years. It was traded to me in a large coin deal and I was told that it had a value of $350. I looked on eBay and they seem to sell for less than that. My question is regarding condition and PSA certification. I don't even know where to start, so I will just post a pic and let you sports experts respond. Thanks in advance for your help! Dennis

    Oh....and it is a Bowman 1955 #179. Thanks!
  • Nice card. It is a1955 Bowman, not his rookie card. Still worth big bucks though...........
  • Though the card looks exceptionally nice, the bottom right hand corner will keep it from grading any higher than a PSA 7. Still a high end looking card...

I"m guessing it will grade out at about a 6. Recent prices for 6's have been $122. $154 $130 $111.
if you catch a break and it gets a 7 there have been 4 recent sales ranging from $224. to $240.
the bottom right corner looks too worn for an 8.
    Best of luck with it.

Thanks everyone for the great information. So, how much would it cost to get this graded at PSA? Or.....should I just sell it to a collector and let him/her get it graded? I have a timing issue anyway.

The plastic holder that it is in in scratched up and kind of dull. Here's a pic of the back:

If that is paper loss on the back under "batting record" it will get downgraded severely. If you have a timing issue you'd probably be better off selling it raw on ebay, with a front and back scan.
If you are a PSA member it will cost you $15, with the shipping close to that much again. If you're not a member you'll be better off submitting thru a dealer, rather than pay the $99. fee that you probably won't need again.

Since the card is not going to come back a PSA 8 because of the bottom right corner and not likely a 7 either you would do better selling it raw.
Sell it on EBAY if you are a regular there..........show scans front and back, taking the card out of the case to make the scans.

Do up a good writeup extolling its virtues............high gloss, well centered etc.

Let me know if you put it up on ebay......I may bid myself..........it is a better card then the one in my set.

PS...yeah..... what is that on the back above the recods? Eraser mark??

That stuff on the back is just sticker residue on the holder. It came off. Thanks again for the info and I am glad I don't need to submit it to PSA. I was planning on selling it on ebay either raw or certified, but it looks like raw is the way. Someone already expressed an interest in the card via pm, so I may do it that way too.

Thanks again for all of the fast and great information guys.

  • Definately sell it raw on Ebay with a nice write up. Sometimes raw cards will exceed PSA 8 prices because people always want to believe that everything is actually better than it shows. If you have over 500 feedback and have done buying or selling consistantly (coins or cards), people will feel safer when bidding.....
