Did the last ABNCo vignette sale by ANR establish the proper floor for similar items going forward?

I was checking out the ABNCo vignette offerings by ANR online, and I noticed quite a lot of nice pieces. The opening bids seem to be a bit higher than I remember in their last auction. I have not gone back and checked the prices realized for these items in the last auction, but I know that I got smoked on all of my bids. I see now that I could have won certain lots for a song, compared to some of the bids that are posted currently.

Do you think that ANR made the right moves to establish a floor for these vignettes in their last auction? Do you think the opening prices will be driven higher in subsequent auctions, as more and more collectors are whipped up into a frothy frenzy over the vignettes? I think they are cool, but I am still uncertain as to where the proper price point should be for these items. QDB is a lot smarter than I am, so I am sure he has it all figured out. What do you think?

Are you sure there is going to be a secondary market for these items? I have my doubts.

Honestly, I do not. However, for what they are, I think they are cool. Some of the engravings are incredible. They are miniature pieces of art. Although the ones that I am interested in are pretty steep (one has a bid at $600!), there are less expensive ones that are attractive. I would never buy one with the intent to resell, though.

I also got smoked on the last sale.

And I too noticed that the prices this time are much Higher.

I am not buying to re-sell, but to have some pretty, unique art.

There has been some concern that som of the blank plates for obsoletes can be used to print copies with no indication that they are re-prints.

    absolutely!!!

    yes yes!!

    i totally agree

yes he is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is why he is writing a book and promoting and selling them
    through his auction firm

oh yes TRUE AND there is nothing wrong with that the buyers can do whatever they choose to do with them.................reprints promotion etc. it would bring new life into the hobby and also more collectors

and as long as they do not have the plates for the few that i got from the mis 19th century i really do not have a problem at all with it them printing reprinting or whatever they do

also it is quite legal to do if theyh own the printing plates

well of course they want people with large amounts of money to bid on these trophy items kind of like spending 1000 dollar per person on a dinner that more than likely with these plates most will never recover their intial investment?? maybe some most will?? i do not know but they are not for me

it is something you like and keep think of it as spending your discretionary income on these plates with little to no return

maybe some will make a killing with sellinhg to the regiht person who wants it possibly but the majority will have a great piece of history that to me is quite boring as i woujld rather have the original notes

i guess only time will tell

in this esoteric rhelm buy what you like with monry you can afford to lose nothing wrong with that and maybe those texas plates in the last auction was bought by a well heeled collecgor that has all of the original number one notes and the plates make his set unique or maybe it was bought by a large bank founded by the issuer or these texas plates?? large prices realized i am sure but you need promotion and venue to get the right single buyer or just get two in the same room at the auction who want it!!

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i hope many get reprinted it would be great for collectors and for the hobby the only ones i do NOT want reprinted and i hope they do not EVEN have the plates are the few original obsolete notes that i gotsimage

The responsible thing to do would have been to cancel the plates to prevent their use for producing counterfeits. Unfortunately, that would have reduced their value and all the consignor cared about was the bottom line.
