Run differential

I was just checking out the standings in MLB and noticed the Yankees have scored 821 runs this season while allowing 674. They have the largest difference between scored and allowed at +147.

This got me to wondering what the largest differential was for season all time. I only looked up a few teams, but here are some numbers I found...

Year Team Runs scored Runs allowed Diff.

1939 Yankees 967 556 +411
1927 Yankees 975 599 +376
1936 Yankees 1065 731 +334
1998 Yankees 965 656 +309
1937 Yankees 979 671 +308
1931 Yankees 1067 760 +307

1929 Athletics 901 615 +286

1953 Dodgers 955 689 +266

1975 Reds 840 586 +254

2001 Mariners 927 627 +300

I was amazed to see some of the differentials over the years. Hard to imagine scoring 400 runs more than allowed for a season. The only 2 recent teams I found that compared to those from years past were the 98 Yanks & the '01 Mariners who both averaged nearly 2 more scored than allowed per game.

If anyone knows of a team or year I missed please forgive me and feel free to jump in with who it was.

Interesting stat bri. I wonder what is the negative differential record for a team that won a pennant or division yet allowed more runs.

the 60 yanks and bucs ws comes to mind

the yanks won 3 games big.

lost 4 games by slim margins.

Without looking up other W.S. years Id have to say it was the 1960 series. The Yankees outscored the Pirates 55-27 and lost in 7. i cant imagine any other series coming close to that.
