Early Days of Certified Auto Cards - Real?

Does anyone know if there were ever problems with getting legit signatures on some of the earlier certified auto issues like Scoreboard, Classic, ProLine Live, etc? Or can a buyer of those cards be reasonably assured that signatures on these are likely legitimate? I thought I had heard about some problems with Scoreboard once, but I don't recall for sure. Thanks

The biggest problem I think with scoreboard stuff is when they closed operations the certifying stamps were sold or lost or stolen, so a LOT of scoreboard stuff coming from taiwan and singapore is crap. Once it hits here via ebay it's still crap.

I had a mantle and dimaggio that were just horrible fakes, got them in a package. I saw the same horrible mantle sell for $200 on ebay. They were scoreboard certified.

Some early proline were bad. There are 2 different walter payton autos for I think 1991, one is good and one is bad, both proline certified.

Edit to add - this is a bad walter payton auto, proline stamped, for sale right now on ebay. Singapore

One of the early 90s steelers had his wife sign his cards. Certified but no legit.

Troy Aikman and Jim Kelly used the autopen a lot.

Somebody posted a bad hank aaron sig a couple days ago and Allen posted a bad jordan sig today, both PSA certified, so I guess even that isn't a sure thing. But the odds are better.

I think the ScoreBoard autos with the stamp are made with counterfeit stamps in Taiwan and some other places in Asia. Same with the Proline. Generally anything like that that comes from Asia is fake. They made fake Skybox stamps and forged the Stockton, Ewing and Magic/Bird Autos. I have noticed lately that a lot of cards in GAI and PSA/DNA slabs look very suspect. They are the experts, but after looking at thousands of signatures, I do not understand how they can slab some of the stuff they do.

The Proline Jack Kemp certified autograph card is autopen. Kemp was a possible Presidential candidate at the time so his cert auto card was selling at $100 or more. I think the Joe Montana might have been an autopen too, maybe someone else can confirm.
