I'm not a hockey fan but this definitely caught my attention. I wish I could get a 15 yr contract from my boss. To be honest, I'd take any contract.

I don't know how anyone in their right mind within the organization would agree to such an idiotic contract. The guy has a career losing record, the team didn't make the playoffs with him last season... and suddenly he's the next coming of Patrick Roy???
So, let's see how this could play out:
1) They miss the playoffs or get knocked out in the first round the next 3 seasons in a row, he's a sub-par goalie, they want to trade him but can't so they use him as a back-up for a season, he gets pissed and plays horrible, and then they release him and eat the remaining $49M of the contract.
2) He suddenly turns into the greatest goalie in the league, the team is stellar and go deep into the playoffs the next 2 years, and win a Stanley Cup in the third year. He now feels grossly underpaid, as he could command over $10M/year on the open market and is being paid less than half of that. He complains, becomes unhappy the team is not willing to rework his contract, and quickly slips into an abyss of crap.
Either way, this nightmare has just begun... what morons.
I had the same thoughts but not the desire to type it all out so I will give you one of these bad boys

I really don't understand what Wang is doing with this club. He clearly knows nothing about hockey, and I really feel sorry for the remaining fans of this once proud franchise.

<< <i>DiPietro was the first ever goalie drafted #1, and has by all accounts turned into a serviceable backstop. However, he is NOT destined to be a Brodeur, and this is easily the dumbest personnel move I've ever seen... well, at least since the Islanders hired their backup goalie to be the GM chair.

Don't forget, this is the same owner who once thought about getting Sumo wrestlers to learn to play goal because naturally, the bigger the goalie, the less of a chance the puck will go in.
Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12
