Ichiro's Best Mainstream Rookie?

Sorry for all these posts. As you can tell, I'm out of the loop on anything past say '92. Anyway, what is Ichiro's best, most popular mainstream rookie? This means no refractors, autographs, jerseys, low-number inserts, etc. Just want to know what his key rookie card is. Say the one that would be used in the HOF rookie card set, if he were to make it to Cooperstown. Thanks!

I assume you mean his first mainstream, domestically produced card, as there were numerous Japenese issues that all precede anything made here.

That said, I think the 2001 Bowman Chrome is the card most people think of. But there are a huge number of 2001 issues that might all qualify. 2001 Leaf Rookie and Stars. 2001 Ultimate Collection

I think, ultimately, a Registry concept will probably allow in numerous possibilities for stars like Ichiro - as there is not one clear cut winner....

Thanks Marc. Where does his SP Authentic card rank?

Definitely a good one. Should be easy to find. I don't think it ranks as one of his "best", per se, but it comes from a very nice set, with a defined print run, and it seems to be a popular set with collectors.

shag - the problem with your question is that a card can be autographed, have a GU swatch, or both, and still be considered mainstream.

Best mainstream minus all of that stuff.

In my opinion, the most attractive looking rookie card for Ichiro is the 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars. It's a fairly rare card to find on ebay, graded or otherwise. The 2001 SPX Auto is also nice. But a PSA 9 will set you back around $600.00. Here's a link to the leaf card in BGS
    9.

2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars Ichiro Suzuki BGS 9

The seller is asking $85.00. A PSA 9 usually goes for between $45 to $65.00.

    The Spx is THE card

  • There is his 1993 BBM rookie card (japanese). PSA 9's go $75-$125 if i'm not mistaken.
