George III Coronation medal? What can you tell me about it's history?

Other than being corroded, cleaned, artificially darkened and quite worn, can anyone shed any light on it's history? I know virtually nothing about British medals, but I bumped into this one and being a history buff, it made it's way home home with me a couple of years ago.

It is listed in British Historical Medals #47. The Coronation of George III and Queen Charlotte.

It is silver and has a Rarity listing of "C" Common. No artist listed, but Lawerence Natter is a possibility. image

George III succeeded to the throne on the death of his grandfather on 25th October 1760. The coronation ceremony was performed in Westminster Abby on 22nd September in the following year, and lasted six hours. L. Browns BHM.
  • Thanks theboz - I think it's a neat piece despite the condition.
