"Unsearched" Lincoln lot #1

Updated my copy of Cherrypicker's v. 1, and promptly realized that I didn't have any stuff to go through other than modern pocket change.

So, for grins and giggles I figured I'd buy a couple of so-called "unsearched" wheat lots just to see if ANY of them were on the up and up (I'm not betting the farm on any finds whatsoever).

I figure that I'll have fun pawing through them for dates, and then come the hibernation months of winter I'll sit down with my loupe and stereo microscope and look for varieties.

After shipping, the cost per cent ranges from roughly 4 to 10 cents. Worst case scenario is that I have several hours of fun and then dump them back on Ebay for someone else to play with, or sell them to a local dealer at 3 cents per.

The first lot came from a local dealer. He claimed that "a lot of people have asked to go through these. They came from an old couple who brought in a bag of stuff to sell."

Umm... not so much. Not only was there nothing of any substance, but in my opinion the distribution is completely skewed, even within the 1950s. I expect a greater percentage of D mintmarks due to higher mintages, but not to the extremes shown.

Basically it was someone's dregs, with D mintmarks outnumbering everything else by 10-15:1.

Neat. I believe that those lots are usually picked through already, but I'll bet you had fun going through them.

I have been a collector for over mumbly-five years. I learn something new every day.
